This position will be filled at the Assistant Professor level. We seek a motivated, broad-thinking scientist and educator to establish a vigorous research program and provide intellectual leadership in their field while complementing existing expertise at SIO and other UC San Diego departments. SIO is a world-renowned institution for earth and ocean science research with approximately 200 principal investigators. UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within its faculty, staff, and student body. We are interested in candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to inclusive excellence in teaching, mentoring, research, and service towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment in alignment with the University's diversity initiatives.We seek candidates that have a history of innovative research in fields ranging from, but not limited to: natural products chemistry, chemical ecology, metabolomics or other ‘omic' sciences, pharmacology, biotechnology, and chemical and synthetic biology. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong, marine-focused extramurally supported research program that integrates with and elevates existing marine natural products research at SIO, other departments at UC San Diego, and, in particular, the Center for Marine Biotechnology and Biomedicine (CMBB).The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels, develop courses that promote student knowledge of marine natural products, marine biotechnology, marine chemical ecology and/or related topics, and train the next generation of researchers.QualificationsBasic Qualifications
(required at time of application): PhD or equivalent degree in biological, chemical, physical or ocean sciences, or a relevant field, is required at the time of application.Preferred Qualifications:
