GIS Analyst II

CSS is seeking to hire an experienced GIS Analyst to join the NOAA Coastal Resilience team and become part of an inter-agency project modeling coastal wetland changes with sea level rise! We need a qualified individual to identify, prepare, process, and manage geospatial data to support a variety of environmental assessment, restoration, and coastal habitat modeling projects. The candidate will use geographic information systems (GIS) to manage geospatial data, generate maps of results, and contribute to product development for various coastal resilience projects.This position requires proven proficiency with the technical aspects of processing, documenting, and managing large and complex geospatial datasets and the ability to coordinate and collaborate with project partners. Familiarity with coastal marine, especially wetland geospatial topics are desirable. The suitable candidate must be able to work effectively with a team of scientists from remote locations, set agendas and meet deadlines, and work independently to complete milestones in a timely manner. The position could be remote or located in one of the following locations: Charleston, SC; Beaufort, NC; or Silver Spring, MD, depending on which location works best for the ideal candidate while still meeting the Government's needs.Responsibilities:Expand and maintain project GIS databasesCreate GIS maps for reports and online maps and associated data visualization applications to promote data accessibility.Develop custom, reproducible geoprocessing workflows using scripts or other automated techniquesDevelop, document, and implement data management workflowsClean, organize, and input data into databases while maintaining accurate detailed records of observations, measurements and resultsCreate, edit, and transform geospatial data (vector and raster) from variety of sources and sensors to suit project requirements and various software platformsCoordinate and lead data management meetings and liaison with data providers and modeling expertsDevelop metadata to appropriate NOAA standards.Work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to other relevant projects as directedContribute to peer-reviewed publication(s), presentations, reports, and data visualization products.
Qualifications / Skill Requirements:Master's Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Earth Science, Ecology, Computer Science or closely related field, and at least
two
years of experience performing geospatial analysis, GIS data management, geospatial project coordination, or spatial modeling. A Bachelor's Degree in GIS or related field with more than five years experience may substitute.Experience with data preparation, data management, workflows, cartography, and spatial analysis, and coordinate reference systemsExperience with compiling and manipulating raster and vector datasets and developing reproducible workflows using Python and/or R.Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online (including story maps and other mapping applications)Knowledge of coastal ecosystems, particularly wetlandsAbility to maintain focus on routine and repetitive tasks, and strong attention to detail and task trackingStrong organizational skillsDetail oriented and effective verbal and written communication skillsAbility to be flexible in responding to changes in schedules and job prioritiesAble to work in a team environment with partners from various disciplinesAble to work in the US without sponsorship
Additional desirable skills:Familiarity with data and data analyses associated with wetland ecosystems including: surface elevation tables, aged sediment cores, topobathy digital elevation model adjustments and creation, water level data, and wind rose dataExperience with Adobe Creative Suite products (e.g., Illustrator, Photoshop) or similar (e.g., Canva)
