Summary This Data Scientist (Data & AI Management), GS-1560-15 DH is located in National Science Foundation. The primary purpose of the position is to provide expertise and policy in managing and optimizing NSF's data infrastructure, including databases, data warehouses, and other data processing tools. This position also manages the entire data engineering process, from data collection and storage to processing and analysis This announcement will close on12/05/2024. Responsibilities As a Data Scientist (Data & AI Management), GS-1560-15 DH, you will perform the following duties: Lead and manage the data engineering team, providing direction, guidance, and support, while working closely with the CDO and other leadership to align data engineering initiatives with the overall data strategy and business objectives. Stay informed about emerging technologies and recommend their adoption when appropriate; manage relationships with external vendors providing data engineering tools or services; and evaluate and select vendors based on organizational needs. Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of data engineering projects; and ensure that projects are aligned with organizational priorities and that timelines and budgets are met. Develop and maintain NSF's AI-ready data mesh, and participate in inter-agency forums, conferences, and training related to data science, including artificial intelligence and machine learning. Serve as the COR on contracts supporting Data & Artificial Intelligence (AI) data and analytical program activities/projects; and develop/evaluate technical requirements of all aspects of contracts. Qualifications Basic Requirements: Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, you must meet the specialized experience below. To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the federal government leading and overseeing efforts to design, develop, and maintain an organization's data architecture, infrastructure, and systems. Examples of experience include: - aligning data engineering initiatives with overall organizational data strategy. - overseeing data engineering projects. - managing the development and maintenance of data integration processes. - developing policy to optimize data infrastructure and the data catalog. - managing and overseeing data and AI contracts Experience refers to paid/unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) & other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, & skills & can provide valuable training/experience that translates directly to paid work.
