We strategically identify white space for Exclusive Store Brands to add value, analyzing data, partnering with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, to make key strategic decisions for the Exclusive Store Brands portfolio. We work closely with our Independent Operators as well as our Purchasing and Planning teams to complement our existing opportunistic buying strategy while enhancing our existing ongoing assortment.About the Role:Reports to the Vice President of Exclusive Store Brands Product Management and Sourcing and is a new role to Grocery Outlet. This specific role will have primary responsibilities for managing the packaging artwork lifecycle for the Exclusive Store Brands portfolio of products. This includes leading all packaging design initiatives, keeping projects on-track and on-time to drive sales and loyalty through superior brand design and packaging production. The scope of responsibility will span across all relevant categories, requiring collaboration and planning with multiple vendors and internal stakeholders. This role is a unique opportunity to join a new team chartered with developing the foundation and future of Exclusive Store Brands at Grocery Outlet.Responsibilities Include:Manage the lifecycle of Exclusive Store Brands packaging, responsible for the packaging development projects including new product launches, white-space innovation, redesigns, line extensions, and maintenance for Exclusive Store Brands.Collaborate across multiple internal and external stakeholders, being the liaison in the Exclusive Store Brands packaging development process to ensure the timely success of product packaging launches.Lead Exclusive Store Brands design kickoff sessions with third-party design agencies and internal commercialization team members for new item launches and adaptations, focused on optimal design and effective print production.Full packaging project management support on all Exclusive Store Brands packaging design projects, supporting multiple projects with varying deadlines and deliverables. Provide forward-thinking insight to workflow and resource impacts as timelines shift.Lead weekly packaging project status meetings; creating agendas & recaps, including next steps and action items. Follows up to ensure that deliverables meet or exceed timeline expectations.Partner with Marketing to manage the organization and retention of all product and packaging digital assets, ensuring all information is up-to-date and readily accessible for all marketing purposes.Ensures that risk assessment and contingency planning (for relevant projects) takes place, is communicated and agreed upon by all core team members and is acted on if necessary to keep the project on track or to escalate any unresolved issues.Partner with Exclusive Store Brands team members and Finance to develop annual packaging expense plans, responsible for reconciliation of project budget and actual expenses, and invoice approvals.Manages every portion of the packaging design approval process between internal and external partners, ensures alignment at every step of the design and activation process, including managing print production compliance with multiple suppliers and design/prepress vendors.Monitors production art development from agency handoff through & including final materials, providing technical consultation to Exclusive Store Brands team members as needed to ensure efficient & effective packaging production.Ensure all packaging design information on package is legally correct and accurate, comparing to legal standards and competitive claims and positioning. Partner with Grocery Outlet Legal team as appropriate.Responsible for understanding latest design, brand and packaging trends and innovations in targeted categories, ability to travel to tradeshows and conduct market visits to understand competitive action.Proactively identify continuous process improvement opportunities, looking to reduce lead-times and packaging design costs where applicable.About The Pay:Base Salary Range: $85,000 - $110,000 AnnuallyAnnual Bonus ProgramEquity401(k) Profit SharingFinal compensation will be determined based upon experience and skills and may vary based on location.About You:Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Economics, Liberal Arts or related field.10+ years of creative, marketing and print production experience. Experience with product packaging highly preferred.Ideal candidate will also have experience independently leading both small- and large-scale projects, working with cross functional teams.Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.Able to understand and interpret instruction from multiple parties, knowing when to ask relevant questions and seek guidance, to successfully solve problems and execute tasks.Collaborative worker—quickly builds trusted relationships with internal business partners and external suppliers and third-party service providers.Strong ability to multi-task, able to prioritize across multiple stakeholders, able to work independently and keep a high level of focus while meeting deliverables on time.Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, especially in front of peers and executive audiences and third-party service providers.Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.Must be willing to work on-site in Emeryville, CA as needed and travel up to 25% in order to review packaging designs prepress runs at external and printers and suppliers.
