The IT Business Analyst is responsible for providing business analysis for IT systems related to the next generation of the bar exam and for our current suite of more than two dozen systems. The IT Business Analyst will also be involved in at least two major, multi-year, multi-phase system rewrites and an extensive database migration project. The Business Analyst engages with business units and product owners to gather IT system requirements, document business processes and process flows, and ensure that business users and IT software developers and QA engineers understand the new system requirements and/or proposed changes related to the systems, including writing test cases. The position is also responsible for ensuring that changes to IT software applications are moved through IT's software development life cycle process, and providing end users with opportunities to conduct thorough user acceptance testing. This employee is a critical member of the IT Project Management Office (IT PMO) and will assist the Deputy Director of IT and Project Management with ensuring that IT systems and the systems the departments utilize meet requirements to support various business functions. The Business Analyst reports to the Deputy Director of IT and Project Management. Specific responsibilities include the following: Liaise with business units/departments to identify and document business processes and software system needs. Document requirements via process maps, use cases and/or user stories. Work with business units on user acceptance testing, including documenting features/functionality. Write clear and well-structured business requirements/documents. Work closely with software development teams to ensure that documentation contains adequate information, supporting documentation, and the appropriate level of details for technical decisions, software development, and quality assurance. Ensure that software change requests and bug fixes move from the help ticketing system through deployment, including managing software changes in the IT Department's internal project/task management system. Escalate issues and/or notify IT PMO leadership as needed. Add tasks to IT's internal task management system. Ensure all requirements are gathered and developer-ready prior to indicating that the tasks are ready for assignment. Ensure task statuses stay up-to-date and reflect near real-time statuses. Ensure that task-related notes are documented and clearly describe important information for software developers and the IT PMO about task status. Engage with product owners and/or software change requestors to schedule demo's of significant changes and/or new features/functionality and/or systems. Solicit and gather feedback. Document and ensure that software develop teams have the information they need to move forward. Translate business requirements into test cases for integration and/or regression testing for QA purposes. Request user acceptance testing of software changes from the change requestors and/or product owners. Ensure they are provided with clear instructions about the change and how to test it. Provide a due date for every UAT request. Follow up with business units/departments/contacts to ensure timely completion of UAT. Document substantial changes in process and/or new systems via screen shots and instructions; provide to product owners to maintain. Collaborate with project manager(s), the IT PMO, and the Director of IT on planning and prioritization of projects. Perform other duties as needed. Qualifications include: Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience. Business analysis certification and/or substantial business analysis coursework. Technical background in systems analysis, software development, quality assurance, database design, and/or data management and/or analysis. Minimum of four years of business analysis experience (can be in combination with project management experience) including working closely with business units/departments and software development teams, process mapping, documenting use cases, user stories, test cases, and software system flow. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong organization and time management skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to self-regulate under pressure. Capacity to manage shifting goals, priorities, and deadlines. Proficiency with one or more project and/or task management tools. The IT Business Analyst may work remotely.
