Accountable to create, implement, and maintain a proactive and aggressive media relations and communications strategy to advance the mission of Hillsdale College nationwide, foster allies, and secure and preserve its independence. This role includes working as a member of the communications and media relations staff to proactively pitch Hillsdale professors.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Education & ExperienceThis position requires a Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience in journalism in a writing-focused position or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the job.Physical RequirementsAbility to read, write, and communicate effectively. Ability to operate basic office equipment, a photocopier, fax machine, computer equipment, and the like.Responsibilities
Help execute the College’s annual media relations and communications plans for media, community, and internal audiences with measurable objectives and goals with a focus on media outlets and influencers, and on key themes.Cultivate relationships with television, radio, and podcast producers.Maintain and track a database of media, influencers, and other key figures.Maintain and update media lists corresponding to topics, issues, and geographic locations pertinent to Hillsdale College and its activities.Help manage the College’s reputation and influence in radio, and broadcast by developing and sending pitches to media outlets and influencers.Coordinate strategic and tactical support to externally-facing departments to advance and defend the College’s influence and reputation.Track and report results (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually).Code of CommitmentBe a good representative of Hillsdale College to promote the liberal arts, the College’s original Articles of Association and operating principles stated in the
