We offer a unique opportunity to lead and manage one of the largest renewable energy businesses in the country, with decades of history, while contributing to the global need for sustainable energy.Reporting to the General Counsel, the new Legal Counsel will be involved in all aspects of Brookfield Renewable’s US legal function and interact with all areas of the business.Responsibilities :
Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of legal and business issues relating to Brookfield Renewable’s US portfolio of hydroelectric, wind, solar and storage assetsWork collaboratively and productively with lawyers and professionals within our businesses and externally to achieve successful outcomes and execute transactionsManage and execute project level transactions, such as project financings (bank debt, private placement, tax equity), greenfield development projects, asset sales and acquisitions, and provide legal advice in relation to various other project level mattersPrepare and review agreements, instruments and other documentation, including credit agreements, non-disclosure agreements, procurement and construction agreements, purchase and sale agreements and other legal documents, and work with the operations, project development, investments, corporate finance and treasury teamsSupervise external litigation counsel and lead settlement discussionsProvide legal advice in relation to corporate secretarial matters of certain of our subsidiariesAssist in developing and implementing legal policies, processes, and standards, including risk management strategies, policies and compliance programsRequirements:Demonstrated ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice and recommendationsEffective communication skills and ability to present clear and practical legal argumentsAbility to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and to adapt quickly to changing prioritiesHighly self-motivated and proactive; eager to take ownership over work product and able to advance work independentlyTeam-oriented, demonstrating a commitment to shared success above any personal accomplishment or recognitionExcellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop collaborative relationships at all levels in the organizationStrong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with attention to detail and thoroughnessExcellent organizational skills and capability to effectively manage priorities while meeting timelinesRequires travel, from time to time, dependent upon project/transaction dynamicsQualifications:At least three (3) years of high quality corporate legal experience at a top law firm or large multinational corporationA university/college degree (LLB or JD) in law and member in good standing of a state barExperience with transactions within the power sector or other infrastructure sectors would be considered an asset
