POSITION SUMMARYThe Development Director serves as a key member of the development team, reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer (CDO). The Development Director helps oversee all the organization’s fundraising efforts and manages relationships with our stakeholders. The Development Director is responsible for raising money to meet STARability Foundation’s financial goals, forecasting future income, and gathering feedback from donors. This includes developing an annual fundraising strategy, forming key relationships with constituencies, identifying funding opportunities, marketing funding opportunities, and reporting fundraising results to stakeholders. The successful candidate will be able to communicate professionally and effectively with donors, staff, and other stakeholders. They will also be able to work both independently and collaboratively with staff, committee members, and other volunteers.
RESPONSIBILITIESCollaborate with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) to develop and oversee the development budget.Contribute to the creation of an annual development plan aligned with the organization's strategic goals.Generate regular reports on fundraising activities, assessing performance against projections and budget.Utilize data from the donor database to make informed decisions about outreach strategies and engagement.Manage a diverse portfolio of 75-100 donors through identification, cultivation, and stewardship efforts.Organize and conduct donor tours to showcase the impact of contributions.Spearhead the establishment of a corporate engagement initiative to build strategic partnerships and sponsorships.Maintain and update the donor database, ensuring accurate and comprehensive records.Develop and maintain an event calendar, overseeing the planning and execution of donor appreciation and fundraising events, such as annual Galas and 5k runs.Lead an event committee, manage vendors, promote events, adhere to budget constraints, track expenditures, solicit sponsorships and ticket sales.Collaborate with other directors and key staff members to establish and implement best practices for development efforts and overall organizational support.Represent the organization publicly, including speaking engagements, to enhance its visibility and reputation.Work closely with the marketing and communications team to create a comprehensive appeal calendar, ensuring a cohesive messaging strategy.Document and update development procedures to maintain a standardized and efficient workflow.Stay informed about fundraising trends, emerging technologies, and industry best practices to continually enhance the effectiveness of the development strategy.Undertake any other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to the evolving needs of the organization.
QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree preferred. Five years of related non-profit experience required.One or more years of experience with donor or other business development database (e.g., Bloomerang, Salesforce) preferred.Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly with Excel functionality.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and writing skills.Self-directed and motivated. Proven ability to identify and implement creative solutions with a focus on continuous quality improvement. Highly organized and able to consistently meet deadlines.Detail oriented, with demonstrated ability to successfully multi-task projects.Energetic, mission-oriented, and passionate about non-profit work. Thrives working in a highly collaborative team environment to achieve shared goals and ensure continued organizational success in providing high quality, life-transforming opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.Excels in making connections and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders and providing exceptional customer service.Ability to be flexible and patient and to handle a variety of situations that can arise with participants.
APPLICATION & OTHER INFORMATION:The Development Director is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary commensurate to experience. This position is benefits-eligible.
Typical hours for this position are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., with some evening and weekend hours required.
Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and be willing to use a personal vehicle occasionally for work-related events and meetings (reimbursement provided). Some light lifting (up to 20 pounds) and help setting up special events may be required.
