Join the NVFS Family: We are looking to hire a Workforce Development Specialist to join the NVFS Training Futures team!
In this role, you will deliver an integrated training curriculum that teaches basic, business, and life skills simultaneously to a diverse group of trainees.
You will be responsible for hands-on instruction (including email communications) as well as individual support and encouragement of trainees to ensure employment success. As the Workforce Development Specialist, you work as a part of a team, leveraging your knowledge and skillsets in areas including, but not limited to, Microsoft applications, records management, public speaking, meeting management, basic financial literacy, administrative coordination, and organizational structure and behavior.
The ideal candidate will be flexible, collaborative, mission-oriented, and able to see the big picture to achieve the program’s goals.
This role serves as subject matter expert in the assigned content area(s) and collaborates with team members to evolve the curriculum and mold team-based instructional strategies to address the needs of individual and each cohort as they arise. All staff members at TF are responsible for upholding the high-expectations, high-support program model, which requires patience, understanding, compassion, and discipline.

Training Futures (TF) is a nationally recognized workforce development program of Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS). In operation since 1996, the goal of Training Futures is to increase economic opportunity through employment. The program offers an innovative curriculum in a simulated office environment to equip trainees with the tools, strategies, and confidence to secure new jobs and advance in their professional careers. In support of this goal, TF staff members are expected to model professional habits such as daily attendance, punctuality, and adherence to a business professional dress code. TF’s high-expectations, high-support training model empowers trainees to consistently complete the training, obtain professional employment, and increase wages on a level that gives families a permanent pathway out of poverty.

This position has a starting salary of mid 50s.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
Training:
Effectively plan and deliver training in essential business skills for success in the workplace, including:
Business communication;Computer/digital literacy;Tools for a successful job search, specifically resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles;Computer business applications with emphasis on Microsoft OfficeOffice support skillsFormulate lesson plans, training aids, and innovative instructional methods to support growth and development of the trainees.May teach job search skills including but not limited to resume writing, interviewing, etc.Achieve and demonstrate a level of curriculum mastery as indicated through trainee employment outcomes.Support activities that promote individual growth through imaginal education.
Trainee Supervision:
Develop supportive professional working relationship with trainees; provide soft skills coaching, encouragement and support to ensure progress towards goals and job attainment, including direct supervision of 8-12 trainees.Implement imaginal education methodology to model the relationship between an employee and supervisor in a professional work environment.Provide constructive feedback to trainees through coaching conversations and performance evaluations to nurture the development of professional habits and behaviors.Meet with trainees regularly to assist with problem solving as they encounter academic and life challenges; help them identify support resources as needed.Track and support trainee progress and participation, ensuring trainees are able to demonstrate necessary skills and competencies to be successful in preparation for internships and/or regular employment and job search.Program Support:
Serve as active team member in execution of dynamic program components such areas as volunteer coordination, special events, one-on-one coaching of clients, job search, etc.Ensure that service delivery is performed according to and within the NVFS mission, policy, and procedural direction.Participate in weekly team meetings as well as regular supervision with supervisor by providing regular updates and preparing trainee/classroom progress reports.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of curriculum content, program software, and other information on job development programs and initiatives.Participate in regular supervision with supervisor and provide regular updates.Remain current on knowledge of standards and other program-related information.Enter data for record keeping and reporting to meet relevant guidelines.Your Background:

Demonstrated ability to teach and engage diversity of skill levels and learning styles within one classroom while providing a supportive learning environment.Professional experience in adult education, teaching, training and/or workforce development.Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Microsoft Certification a plus.Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in business, communication, education, social sciences or related field a plus.Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build trust, rapport and nurture relationships. Must be able to communicate respectfully, clearly, effectively, tactfully and patiently to a diverse population.Coaching skills with ability to provide effective one-on-one guidance to trainees on a variety of topics and scenarios.Proficiency in usage of basic technological tools including laptops/computers, email, phones, internet and virtual meeting platforms; experience with online learning platforms preferred.Oral and written fluency in English; additional language skills always welcome.Must be able to demonstrate and live the organizational values of Communication, Integrity, Respect, Collaboration, and Accountability.Successful completion of background checks upon hire.
