The

Systems Administrator

manages critical servers, including finance, police and fire systems, websites, disaster recovery systems, and email. Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsible for daily server support for Town departments including, but not limited to fire, police, finance and recreation.Manages and supports the Town’s information disaster recovery center.Ensures server stability and reliability. Responsible for performing preventative maintenance and installing patch updates on servers.Performs backup support of security technology, including firewalls, servers and wireless access points.Responsible for virus protection, planning and implementation and email spam protection.Follows server standards and maintains standards through documentation and cross-training of Computer Technicians.Manages the Town’s email system on Microsoft Exchange server and remote access to email.Provides 2nd level support for complex server and network issues.Responsible for the Town’s storage area network (SAN) installation, maintenance and support.Manages the Town’s virtual server infrastructure (VMware) and configures virtual server clusters.Maintains mobile device management servers and software.Responsible for installation and maintenance of Active Directory infrastructure, Microsoft DNS and DHCP, Microsoft SQL Server and the Town’s backup and archiving system.Monitors industry direction and keeps abreast of technology trends.Performs other duties as assigned or required.Minimum Qualifications:

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or closely related field.

Experience:

Two (2) years' progressively responsible experience and/or training including working with mid- size computer networks in a technical environment, or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies and applications.Knowledge of implementation of local area network systems (LAN), computer software, data structures, computer programming languages and logic, and current practices and development in the field of information technology.Ability to effectively listen and evaluate customer requests to manage system requirements.Ability to convey information to the customer in a non-technical and common descriptive manner.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Ability to utilize a variety of advisory and design data and information, such as software and hardware manuals, networking manuals, technology publications, and the Internet.Knowledge of storage protocols including ISCSI and NFS for use in a virtual environment.Physical Demands:

Sedentary work for long periods of time at a keyboard or workstationOccasional physical work including ability to move and lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standingOccasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stop, kneel, crouch or crawlFrequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment such as hand tools and diagnostic instrumentsVision for reading, recording and interpreting informationSpeech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizensWork Environment:

Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environmentEquipment Used:

Uses general modern office equipment, to include, keyboard, 10-key adding machines, diagnostic instruments, and telephonesThis position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment

Must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check and fingerprint analysis prior to commencing employment.
