Department Name 100132 GLOBAL FOOD POLICY

Department Bio

The Global Food Institute is a newly chartered institute founded by renowned chef and humanitarian Jos Andrs. The institute aims to improve people's lives through interdisciplinary research, curriculum development, and advocacy focused on three pillars: policy, innovation, and humanities. Internally, the Institute aims to advance awareness and scholarship of key food policy issues such as climate change and inequity by engaging faculty and students. Externally, the Institute aims to convene experts for working groups to develop innovative solutions to food related issues.

Position Specific Summary

The Global Food Institute is hiring a student intern to support efforts to build out the food-related curriculum at The George Washington University, and particularly the Food Leadership minor. This is an incredible opportunity to work directly with a faculty member on building out a new program at GW. This is a 20 hours/wk position.

This position will be reporting to the Global Food Institute's Director of Curriculum Development. This job supports outreach to students around food-related academic program offerings, internships, and career opportunities, and will serve as a primary point of contact for student inquiries. The position also supports communication with campus-based and adjunct faculty at GW teaching courses as part of GFI's new Food Leadership minor. Tasks may include scheduling Curriculum Committee meetings, compiling course syllabi, and supporting the Curriculum Director in meeting deadlines to have courses approved and listed for student enrollment. The position will also help support efforts to promote the minor, GFI classes and programming and activities for the broader student community related to food. As part of the position, the position will regularly work in close collaboration with the GW faculty, staff, and students. The individual will be part of a small, collaborative team who are committed to building a more just and equitable food system.

You'll receive training and support to be successful in the role. But it's important to note that we are looking for a very organized self-motivated person. You'll need to manage projects fluidly, fiercely prioritize, and track timelines, data and information all in an organized and systematic fashion. We are looking for someone who doesn't drop balls, miss deadlines or forget to respond to someone's inquiry - and you are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and do the work.
