Fleet Operations Intern

Internship Title: Fleet Operations Intern Department: Fleet Department Length of internship: Full Year: Jan 2025 – Dec 2025, up to 29 hours per week Location: Hybrid, Charlotte area resident preferred Overview: The Fleet Operations Intern will work closely with the General Equipment and Asset Management personnel to support the daily management of TTX railcars. This includes but is not limited to assisting with the daily distribution of the TTX general merchandise fleet of railcars to TTX’s owner railroads; assisting with the distribution of railcars to repair facilities to meet the company’s equipment maintenance and modification schedules; assisting with ensuring that TTX recovers the maximum value for surplus/retiring assets and scrap generated from railcar parts; production of weekly and monthly reports published for internal and external customers. This position will also learn and be expected to influence the efficiency of the equipment managed by the Fleet Department. Duties and Responsibilities: Communicate with the railroads and shippers to provide effective customer service Help manage the General Equipment Fleet railcar pools Review and audit TTX paid storage locations Direct car movements to fulfill TTX maintenance, modification, and disposal schedules Work with other TTX groups and departments to develop an understanding of the business Other duties as assigned Projects the intern will work on: Compilation of reports, and meeting material for rail industry meetings (using MS Word, PDF, Excel, and more) Draft presentations in PowerPoint to support Team efforts More to be determined when the internship starts Internship Goals: Complete all the assigned tasks Opportunity to work with Class 1 and other Railroads to better understand their business Gain an understanding of internal processes affecting various areas of TTX Company Utilize and improve professional communication skills, and develop and manage business relationships Qualifications: Current student pursuing a degree in Business, Computer Science, Transportation, Engineering, or a related field Detailed-oriented Self-starter Outgoing Analytical Preferred Qualities Possessed by Candidate: Eager to learn new things, and support the team Ability to prioritize and effectively juggle multiple efforts Effectively communicate in a business setting with both internal and external customers Eagerness to provide a high level of customer service Prepared to engage with the team, ask questions, and contribute thoughts and ideas Proficiency in MS Office tools (Access, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat and MS Visio a plus, but not required
