To learn how we can supercharge progress for you, visit https://www.hcltech.com/about-us. Overview : The product safety team is seeking a dedicated Field Safety Engineer to join their dynamic group. This role focuses on conducting deep-dive analyses of products in the field, with a particular emphasis on battery safety and performance. The ideal candidate will have a strong product safety background and a passion for ensuring consumer safety. Key Responsibilities : Collaborate with other field safety engineers to provide technical support for safety field returns. Conduct thorough analyses of field returns across various product families and components. Adhere to failure analysis (FA) flow charts and procedures to ensure detailed analysis and reporting of safety field returns. Perform hands-on testing on safety field return units as required. Conduct battery cell tear-downs and gather corresponding documentation and image captures. Assist in submitting samples for chemical analysis to the lab. Collaborate with the FA team to submit X-ray and CT scans of returned units. Complete safety field return analyses, documenting findings in a detailed summary. Communicate analysis results and findings effectively using Keynote and data visualization tools such as Tableau. Key Qualifications and Requirements : Technical engineering degree in a related field; significant lab experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Extensive experience with failure analysis and forensic methods. Knowledge and hands-on experience with lithium batteries. Experience in developing test plans, procedures, and workflows. Background in consumer electronics, electrical engineering, or battery failure analysis is highly valued. Strong communicator with an adaptive personality, capable of thriving in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. High curiosity quotient necessary for excelling in a failure analysis role. Proficient in MS Excel and Apple Keynote; data visualization skills are essential for effectively communicating nuances and conclusions (both written and verbal). Familiarity with the Tableau suite of tools is a plus; experience with data analysis and visualization tools such as JMP is also beneficial. Understanding of safety standards affecting consumer electronics is an advantage. Experience analyzing CT scan/X-ray images is preferred. Expertise in Weibull analysis and time-in-field forecasting is a significant advantage. Strong understanding of consumer product safety standards (IEC 60950 & IEC 62368).
