Software Engineering Co-op - January 2025 January 6, 2025-June 20, 2025 Location: Boston, MA Our Engineering team within our Technology organization is building the future of home and looking for dynamic, hardworking and talented students to join us for a 6-month co-op from January 6, 2025-June 20, 2025. As a Software Engineering Co-op you will dive into a number of complex technical projects and gain a better understanding of our business. The co-op program is designed to give you real work on your team, so you’ll be contributing to the goals of your team and making an impact. You will have the opportunity to work within one of the following groups: Global Supplier Tech: Wayfair sells millions of products and this team owns all the data, tools, and systems that create and manage the content on the site related to each product. We build tools for our thousands of suppliers to send us content we need to be able to sell their products on site. This team makes sure the customer has the information they need to be confident when purchasing for their home. Within Catalog, there are also teams such as pricing & competitive intelligence engineering, merchandising & media engineering, and virtual media. Platforms Tech: Responsible for the entire Wayfair website and all backend components that fuels and powers production. You can be an embedded engineer or a platform engineer. Embedded engineers work directly with engineering verticals to build and consult in building new initiatives. Platform engineers are subject matter experts for languages and engineering tools. You can expect to work with engineers that thrive in collaboration and expertise in one of Wayfair’s supported languages or frameworks including Java, .NET, Python, PHP, Backstage, Buildkite, or SonarQube. You can expect to work with engineers that thrive in collaboration and expertise in one of Wayfair’s supported languages (Java, .NET, Python, PHP, Javascript, with some Golang and Rust) and frameworks (Backstage, Buildkite, SonarQube, Puppet, Terraform and others). SMART: Provides the core platforms and services that allow our customers to discover & buy the products they love. Our systems leverage Wayfair’s extensive customer and product data to deliver trusted and valuable recommendations in real-time using custom machine learning models. Storefront Tech: We develop the features, web services, and data architecture that provide a world-class shopping engine for our millions of unique daily customers. We work in small, cross-functional agile teams to develop, deploy, and iterate on new experiences by partnering with Product, Experience Design, Analytics, and business leaders across Wayfair. Our Websites and Native Apps are built on a foundation of highly-scalable technologies and supports tens of millions of products. We tackle exciting problems that are reshaping how people discover, find, purchase and have goods delivered to their homes. Supply Chain Retail Tech: Develops the complex, ground-breaking logistics system to help move the products Wayfair sells from suppliers to warehouses to customers. Supply Chain is responsible for international transportation, warehouse management, and the customer delivery network making it all possible. What You’ll Do: You will work on individual and group projects focused on the full project life-cycle You will collaborate with business leaders and key stakeholders to brainstorm on how to solve the challenge You will be exposed to a broad spectrum of technologies and programming languages We will help you improve your designs and jumpstart your learning You will have accessibility to technology/engineering leadership who want to hear your ideas You will participate in events with Co-ops across the business You will receive professional development training to improve your soft and hard skills What You’ll Need: Basic Qualifications: To be a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior student pursuing an undergraduate degree in computer science or other related technical field Able to commit to working 40 hours/week (9am-5pm, Monday-Friday) from January 6, 2025-June 20, 2025 Preferred Qualifications: You have a proven track record of strong academic performance. You may have experience with full stack and/or mobile development. You have knowledge and experience working with object oriented programming languages. You may have experience or exposure to SQL, JavaScript and HTML, Python, HTML/CSS (this is not required for all teams) You have an interest in working with big data and machine learning You enjoy autonomy and the opportunity to make a project or tool on your own You have strong communication skills Wayfair Co-op Program Overview Based in Wayfair’s Boston headquarters, our co-op program is a six-month, full-time, paid program that runs twice annually in January to June and July to December. Through the co-op program, students have the opportunity to gain impactful professional experience in their major or career field of interest by fully integrating with Wayfair business units. In addition to exciting project work, Wayfair co-ops have the opportunity to build their professional networks, take advantage of training offerings, and attend social events throughout the program.
