Posting Details Position Information Position Title Agriculture Technician Job Type Staff Position Information (Functional title: Urban Forestry Technician) Department of Agriculture, Food and Resource Sciences The Urban Forestry office of the Department of Agriculture, Food and Resource Sciences (DAFRS) invites applicants to apply for a part-time (50%-66%), non-exempt, four-year, grant funded contractual position with limited benefits. The grant funding for this position expires in July, 2028. There is a possibility of extending the position if external support is obtained. Salary and Benefits Information: Salary $27,000 Benefits: Paid leave, which includes five (5) days of accrued annual leave; the following eight (8) holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday after Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day; and three (3) days of accrued sick leave. (Based upon FTE ). Contingent Category II employees are eligible for Health benefits (medical and pharmacy). The state subsidy is based upon the following: less than 30 hrs./week, there is no state subsidy. More than 30 hrs./week there is a 75 state subsidy Responsibilities Assist with maintaining a seedling grow-out station, including but not limited to setup and maintenance of hoop houses, potting seedlings, and maintaining irrigation. Install and maintain arboretum projects such as signage, pathways, and plantings. Provide assistance with UMES and community tree plantings. Performs other related duties as assigned. Classification 45-0000 Farming, Fishing, and Forestry Occupations Required Qualifications High School diploma or GED Three years in agricultural work, one year of which was in agricultural research. Computer: Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite Driving: Valid driver's license with clean driving record Preferred Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Ability and willingness to work flexible schedules. Ability to safely lift objects in excess of 50 pounds and work within safety standards. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Certifications/Registrations Valid driver's license.
