OBJECTIVES: The R&D Alliance Management team is responsible for a broad portfolio of research and development stage strategic partnerships, including co-development in-licensing and/or out-licensing, acquisition of assets, and academic alliances. We are responsible for managing and optimizing the value of strategic alliances across the pharmaceutical product life cycle. We are seeking a Director level candidate to support these alliance management activities. The ideal candidate will have experience managing discovery research through clinical drug development partnerships, experience with Business Development processes having participated in in/out-licensing activities, and experience with M&A integrations. The role will center around leading a portfolio of strategic partnerships, and require experience with complex collaboration agreements, and significant risk mitigation and conflict resolution skills. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Manage a portfolio of complex research and clinical development partnerships. Define strategic and operational alliance plans, anticipate and proactively develop solutions for effective alliance operation; and influence decision-making within teams and all management levels. Lead processes requiring alliance consensus or decision; gain internal alignment through broad business knowledge; and drive decision-making by involving key internal stakeholders. Apply business and drug development acumen to proactively manage potential issues to avoid conflict with partners. Manage contractual disputes, facilitate impasse resolution and coordinate contract renegotiation or amendments as required. Work cross-functionally and with program leadership to ensure that both Takeda and its alliance partners are on track to meet contractual obligations and milestones. Function as the main source of alliance information, proactively track, monitor, and communicate contract achievements, obligations and any financial payments to project leaders and management. Plan for and proactively manage the evolving nature of a partnership, its governance processes, and partner interactions throughout the life cycle of the agreement. Routinely assess partnership health, performance risks, and the value proposition according to Takeda’s business strategy; and providing visibility and recommendations to management. Partner with Business Development, Legal, Finance and diligence teams to ensure program plans, value drivers for the partnership, and the governance model are appropriately aligned to the contract. For new deals, review and provide input into contract terms and represent Alliance Management during negotiation and partner discussions. Mentor and provide alliance management guidance to project teams and governance team members. Represent Takeda Alliance Management at professional conferences to progress Takeda’s efforts to be a partner of choice. EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: BS/BA required; advanced degree (e.g. MBA) and/or advanced life sciences degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) preferred. Professional certification in alliance management (CA-AM) is desirable. 6-10 years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry with a detailed understanding of drug discovery and development processes. Minimum of 5 years of direct alliance management experience, and/or partnership management in leading global pharmaceutical development programs in a cross-functional environment with a demonstrated track record of having successfully managed multiple complex discovery research, preclinical and clinical development alliance programs Detailed understanding of the drug development process and working knowledge of cross-functional areas and deliverables. Therapeutic area expertise is desirable. Thorough understanding of contracts, partnership models, experience in negotiations, and M&A integrations. Proven leadership and strategic problem-solving skills. Ability to articulate and establish processes with cross-functional impact. Create and deliver presentations with clear messaging and focused recommendations. Effective negotiation and positive influencing abilities. Proven ability to work effectively and diplomatically in conflict situations. Demonstrated ability to objectively communicate complex issues to senior management. Ability to effectively represent Takeda and partner’s interests to maximize partnership value. For Location: USA - MA - Cambridge - Kendall Square - 500 U.S. Base Salary Range: 169,400.00 - 266,200.00 The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives.
