Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in architecture, mechanical, electrical engineering, or interior design

Eight years' experience in the design and construction industry with demonstrated progressive responsibilities

Hold or obtain and maintain EGLE Construction Storm Water Operator Certification

Experience in programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents and cost estimating

Proficiency in Autodesk-AutoCAD, Word, and Excel

General understanding of mechanical and electrical systems

Valid Michigan driver's license and ability to travel independently to all university locations

Ability to feel and handle objects and lift items up to 40lbs

Ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff with excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented attitude

Ability to interact and work well with a diverse group of people

Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation

Responsibilities

Project Managers within the Facilities, Planning & Construction division will manage the design and construction process for new construction and renovation projects, within a specific timeframe and funding amount to ensure that goals and objectives of the project are accomplished

Develop projects in conjunction with the Director to support the Universities capital improvement plan

Coordinate with the Director the planning and organizing short and long-range objectives for departmental operations and campus development

Evaluate new programs and adaptations to existing services or procedures

Provide contract administration: including reviewing and approval of shop drawings, project inspection, approval of pay vouchers, approval of bulletins and change orders for self-run projects and oversight of project manager run projects

Provide planning and design services for a variety of construction projects under the direction of the Director: including schematic design, design development, construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, interaction with facility users, contractors, architects, engineers, and vendors

Support Director with preparation of RFQ and RFP proposals for contractors and design professionals

Assist in the selection and evaluation of staff

Assist with document reviews

Time management and flexibility to manage multiple projects

Assist in updating campus signage and wayfinding

Perform inspections of the campus facilities and grounds

Updating of electronic drawings of campus and construction preferences

Assist in the training and mentoring of the project manager

Manage the department in the absence of the Director

Perform and assist project manager in logistical operations as related to construction projects

Manage conflict and negotiate outcomes

Oversight of electronic and paper drawings of campus buildings, utilities, and systems schematics

Observe and report the need for repairs and replacement of equipment, furnishings, fixtures, utilities, etc

Initiate work orders and make notes for needed repairs

Other duties as assigned

Supervision Supervision is received from Director of Facilities, Planning and Construction.

Functional and administrative supervision of staff.

Working Conditions Duties are often performed inside, but you will be exposed to outdoor environmental conditions, heights, ladders, tunnels, dusty and dirty conditions.
