Project Success is looking for a director for our musical production of
Moana Jr.
at Anwatin Middle School. This is an independent contractor position.
Project Success is a nonprofit youth development organization that helps students connect to their purpose. We work with more than 16,000 6th-12th grade students and their families annually and have more than 225,000 alumni around the world. Learn more at projectsuccess.org.
Project Success produces musicals at four Minneapolis Public middle schools: Sanford, Northeast, Andersen United, and Anwatin. We cast 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in each show. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and have a variety of theatrical experience. For many, the Project Success musical at their school is their first opportunity to be in a show! We utilize the power of theater to inspire, build community, act as a springboard for discussion, and encourage students to tell their own stories.
Core Job Responsibilities Theatrical Direction:
Overseeing the artistic vision and direction of the production
Assist with running auditions and casting the show alongside the Senior Program Manager – Musicals
Create effective and efficient rehearsal schedules weekly
Develop and teach blocking for all scenes and select musical numbers
Foster and empower students’ talents and confidence
Create an inclusive and accessible environment at rehearsal
Communication:
Work in close collaboration with the Music Director, Assistant Director, Choreographer, Technical Director, and Senior Program Manager – Musicals
Build and nurture trusting relationships with students
This contract position reports to the Senior Program Manager – Musicals
Schedule
Rehearsals after school, Monday through Friday, from 3:20 pm – 5:40 pm (5 days a week)
Four tech rehearsals from 3:20 pm – 6:40 pm
Two performance dates including two school matinees and two evening performances
Additional time commitment of 1-3 hours per week to plan actor blocking, create weekly rehearsal schedules, make production documents (e.g., mic lists, prop needs), and attend a production meeting the week before auditions. More details regarding scheduling are to be discussed during the interview process.

Auditions: March 25th
Rehearsals: Monday, April 7th – Thursday, May 29th
Tech rehearsals: Friday, May 23rd & Tuesday, May 27th – Thursday, May 29th
Performances: Friday, May 30th and Saturday, May 31st
Position Details
Independent contractor position
$3,250 – $3,800 Stipend, commensurate with experience
Must be able to pass a background check
