Reporting directly to the Director of the Asian Student Center (ASC), the Associate Director serves as a key member of the ASC within the broader context of Belonging and Community Justice (BCJ) area. BCJ is comprised of six identity spaces at Emory that serve as a hub of support for students to matriculate to and through the university. BCJ promotes dynamic and cohesive learning by creating space for individual, cultural, and communal development. The Asian Student Center (ASC) at Emory University is focused on supporting all Emory University undergraduate, graduate, and professional students including Asian Pacific Islander Desi/American (APIDA) students. This position is student-centered and responsible for supporting the Director's strategic vision and alignment of Emory resources to coordinate and assess community relevant programs and services to support access, academic progress, sense of belonging, persistence, and retention of students. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Student Support & Supervision: Provides and develops resources to all APIDA undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Serves as an advisor for all student organizations supporting APIDA students. Collaborates with student organizations and campus partners leading high impact practices for APIDA students. Refers APIDA students to appropriate campus resources for support, as needed. Meets one-on-one with all students who request assistance. Creates reflective spaces for APIDA students to celebrate their identities and cultures. Supervises, leads, mentors, and designs professional development opportunities for ASC staff. Responds and supports leadership in crisis situations in accordance with university policies. Emory and Campus Life Program Development: Develops, coordinates, and executes comprehensive ASC programs designed to support Emory's Student Flourishing Initiative. Creates and implements innovative programs that invite all students to communicate across social identities. Coordinates efforts to welcome APIDA students to Emory. Leads planning and implementation efforts to celebrate Asian Pacific Desi American Heritage Month. Designs assessment tools to gather program data and trends. Supports BCJ areas and initiatives. Creates educational engagement opportunities for students. Develops and collaborates on presentations and workshops relevant to APIDA students. Cultivates relationships with colleagues across the university. Supports committee work and initiatives that serve the campus broadly. Other duties as assigned. Communication & Marketing: Leads office newsletters content creation in alignment with ASC and Emory guidelines. Maintains accuracy and effectiveness of the ASC website. Markets and promotes the ASC and its programming to all students. Fiscal and Center Operations: Provides timely budgetary information to supervisor. Processes university fiscal paperwork accurately. Assesses necessity of various expenditures. Meets deadlines for reports and budgets. Ensures responsible planning and expenditure of fiscal resources. Oversees cleanliness and organization of the ASC. Regularly inspects facilities for maintenance and safety issues. Supports the Director with fundraising efforts. Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field and three years of experience with campus-wide programming, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Demonstrated experience in supervising and developing student staff. Demonstrated understanding and experience with complex issues around identity and equity. Experience educating and training students on topics of diversity and inclusion. Willingness to learn how to advance student support and initiatives. Knowledge of student development theory and current issues facing underrepresented communities. NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.
