Description
Reporting directly to the Director of the Asian Student Center (ASC), the Associate Director serves as a key member of the ASC within the broader context of Belonging and Community Justice (BCJ) area.
BCJ is comprised of six identity spaces at Emory that serve as a hub of support for students to matriculate to and through the university and includes the Asian Student Center; Centro Latinx; the Emory Black Student Union (EBSU); Emory First; the Center for Women at Emory; and LGBT Life. BCJ promotes dynamic and cohesive learning by creating space for individual, cultural, and communal development.
This position is student-centered and responsible for supporting the Director's strategic vision and alignment of Emory resources to coordinate and assess community relevant programs and services to support access, academic progress, sense of belonging, persistence, and retention of students who find their place in the ASC.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides and develops resources to all Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
Serves as an advisor for all student organizations supporting APIDA students.
Collaborates with student organizations and campus partners leading high impact practices for APIDA students.
Refers APIDA students to appropriate campus resources for support, as needed.
Meets one-on-one with all students who request assistance.
Creates reflective spaces for APIDA students to celebrate their identities and cultures.
Supervises, leads, mentors, and designs professional development opportunities for ASC professional and student staff.
Responds and supports leadership in crisis situations in accordance with university policies and protocols.
Develops, coordinates, and executes comprehensive ASC programs designed to support Emory's Student Flourishing Initiative.
Creates and implements outcome-based, innovative programs that invite all students to communicate across social identities.
Leads the planning and implementation efforts to celebrate all Asian Pacific Desi American Heritage Month and other campus-wide activities.
Designs assessment tools to gather program data and trends.
Supports the BCJ areas and initiatives.
Markets and promotes the ASC, BCJ, and their programming to all students to increase participation.
Provides timely budgetary information to supervisor as necessary.
Processes university fiscal paperwork promptly and accurately.
Ensures the responsible planning and expenditure of fiscal resources.
Oversees the cleanliness and organization of the ASC & BCJ.
Regularly inspects the facilities to identify any maintenance or operational issues.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field and three years of experience with campus-wide programming, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Demonstrated experience in supervising and developing student staff.
Demonstrated understanding and experience with complex issues around identity and equity.
Experience educating and training students on topics of diversity, inclusion, and difference.
Willingness to learn how to advance student support and initiatives.
Knowledge of student development theory and understanding current issues related to historically underrepresented communities.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.
