Summary of Position The National Center for START Services (NCSS) is an initiative that works to strengthen efficiencies and service outcomes for individuals with IDD and mental health needs in the community. Established at the University of New Hampshire Institute on Disability/UCED in 2009, it provides technical support, clinical expertise, and training and consultation services. The Center manages an annual budget of over $6M with research grants, contracts, and services reaching more than 20 states, and employs over 35 full and part-time faculty and staff.
The Executive Director (ED), under the general supervision of the IOD Director, will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for NCSS faculty/staff, research grants, contracts and services, expansion, and execution of its mission. The ED will develop a deep knowledge of the MH/IDD field, core needs and programs, and business operations.
Minimum Qualifications Acceptable minimum level of education:
Master's
Acceptable minimum years of experience:
7-10 years
Other Minimum Qualifications
A Master’s degree in a related field.
Eight or more years of senior nonprofit management experience and/or related background experience.
Demonstrated cultural fit with NCSS faculty/staff, IOD, UNH/USNH, key stakeholders.
Demonstrated transparent and high integrity leadership.
Demonstrated high level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff, stakeholders, and Advisory Board.
Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to the overall community.
Demonstrated ability to supervise and collaborate with internal and external faculty and staff.
A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.
Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies, and volunteers.
Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation.
Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making, and reporting.
Creative problem-solving skills in a positive and collaborative manner.
Strong written and verbal communications skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.
Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
PhD preferred.
Experience in an academic environment preferred.
