JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: GROUNDSKEEPER 1

CATEGORY: NON-EXEMPT

SUMMARY: Groundskeeper 1, under the supervision of the Director, Agronomy, Superintendent, or assistant superintendent, performs routine manual labor involved in overall golf course maintenance. Duties include, but are not limited to, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, digging, and raking. Groundskeeper 1 will also operate both small hand-powered tools and large equipment, such as tractors. The ultimate goal for our Groundskeeping staff is to maintain the pristine condition of the golf course for which Rolling Hills Country Club is widely known.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Under the supervision of the Director, Agronomy, Superintendent, or assistant superintendent, perform routine manual labor involved in overall golf course maintenance.

* Perform routine tasks involved in golf course maintenance - including mowing, edging, planting, digging, and raking.

* Care for established turf by mulching, weeding, grubbing, and removing thatch; trim and edge around flower beds, walks, and walls.

* Mow fairways and roughs.

* Ensure that the equipment gets proper care and fueling and report any equipment problems or failures to the Golf Course Mechanic immediately.

* Provide basic preventive maintenance on equipment and return equipment to the designated location at the maintenance facility.

* Assist in the planting and maintenance of native areas.

* Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

* Skilled in the use of powered equipment and maintenance vehicles such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, blowers, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws.

* Ability to interact with members and staff on all levels in a professional, positive, and friendly manner.

* Ability to comprehend and carry out instructions.

* Ability to work all shifts - days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

* Ability to communicate with Golf Course management.

EXPERIENCE:

* 0-5 years' experience in Grounds Maintenance, golf course environment preferred

* Knowledge of methods and materials used in grounds and landscape area construction/maintenance work highly desired

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

* Valid Driver's License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Ability to bend, stoop, lift and/or carry items up to 25 lbs., up to 50 lbs. with assistance

* Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time

* Ability to work indoors/outdoors, in many weather conditions
