The Department Head for Surgery will oversee the faculty, staff, and residents in the Department of Surgery to advance the educational, clinical, and research missions of the department and the School of Medicine. This includes faculty and residents in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Lafayette. The Department Head will report directly to the Dean of the School of Medicine and work closely with the leadership at our partnering clinical facilities, our regional campuses, and the LSU Healthcare Network. Partnering clinical facilities include University Medical Center-New Orleans (UMCNO), the Southeast Louisiana Veteran’s Affairs Hospital, West Jefferson Medical Center, Ochsner Medical Center – Kenner, Children’s Hospital New Orleans, and others including hospitals in Baton Rouge and Lafayette. The Department Head will also work with associate and assistant deans to ensure high-quality educational experiences for students and residents. The Department Head will have opportunities to collaborate with other clinical and basic science departments and with our multidisciplinary centers of excellence including the Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center, the Cardiovascular Center, the Neuroscience Center, and the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Center. Minimum Qualifications Required Education:

MD (or equivalent) or MD/PhD Certifications/Licenses Required:

Board Certified in Surgery or a Surgical Subspecialty, or be actively enrolled in the maintenance of certification program; licensure to practice in the State of Louisiana before hire date Minimum Experience:

10 years on a medical school faculty; Must have obtained the rank of Associate Professor or Professor; Must have achieved distinction in the areas of clinical practice, education, research, and/or program administration Preferred Qualifications Preferred Experience:

Experience in a leadership role as a department head, section chief, or division director; Experience in recruiting faculty for clinical work, teaching, and research positions; Experience in educational leadership as a program director or course director. Posting Number:
