The LSU School of Medicine invites applicants for the position of Department Head of Radiology. The Department Head is responsible for oversight of the faculty, staff and residents to advance the educational, clinical and research missions of the department and the School of Medicine. The Department Head will report directly to the Dean of the School of Medicine and work closely with the leadership of University Medical Center – New Orleans and other hospitals at which the department faculty provide clinical services. Incumbent will also have the opportunity to work with other clinical and basic science department heads and with directors of our multidisciplinary centers of excellence: the Cardiovascular Center, Neuroscience Center, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Center and Cancer Center.
The successful applicant must have good leadership abilities, effective communication skills, and demonstrate a commitment to outstanding clinical care, quality improvement, education and biomedical research. The successful candidate should be able to provide a vision of excellence for the Department. A record of achievements in clinical service, administration, process improvement, teaching, multi-disciplinary collaborative research and faculty mentorship are essential. The successful candidate will also work with the departmental staff, dean’s office administration, the faculty group practice (LSU HealthCare Network), and the staff and administration of hospitals to maintain, expand and improve the department’s clinical activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education:
MD or equivalent Certifications/Licenses Required:
Board Certified in Radiology or be actively enrolled in the maintenance of certification program; Licensed to practice Medicine in the State of Louisiana and credentialed with all required entities before hire date Minimum Years of Experience:
Ten years on a medical school faculty; must have obtained the rank of Associate Professor or Professor; must have achieved distinction in the areas of clinical practice, education, research, and/or program administration.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
Experience in a leadership role as a department head, section chief or division director; experience in recruiting faculty for clinical work, teaching, and research positions; experience in educational leadership as a program director or course director.
