A provisional appointee must participate and be successful in a Civil Service examination for this classification and be selected through an open competitive process in order to be considered for permanent appointment. The department operates around the clock, touching every neighborhood in San Francisco. The Bureau of Urban Forestry: We oversee the median maintenance, tree planting, and maintenance of over 124,000 City-owned trees through the voter-backed StreetTreeSF program. Public Works currently has vacancies for the position of Integrated Pest Management Specialist (3424) within our Urban Forestry Division. Important and Essential Duties: As an Integrated Pest Management Specialist, your duties may include but are not limited to the following: Survey and inspect trees, shrubs, grass, rights of way, and other vegetation for evidence of disease or harmful pests. Monitor pest ecosystems to evaluate the presence of pest species and conditions that may contribute to pest problems. Assist in the development of an integrated pest management program strategy. Utilize traps and methods to manage pests. Provide expertise and training to staff and the public about pest biology and management strategies. Mix, apply, and monitor various chemicals and baits for pest control. Provide technical direction to gardening staff and other employees. Implement pest control measures in accordance with the City's Integrated Pest Management Program. Operate and maintain specialized equipment for pest control. Maintain detailed IPM records. Minimum Qualifications: Experience: One (1) year of verifiable experience working as a professional gardener, nursery worker or pest control provider. License and Certification: Possession of a California Commercial Applicator Certificate (QAC/QAL) in relevant categories and a valid California class C driver’s license. Note: Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date. Verification: Applicants may be required to submit verification of qualifying education and experience during the recruitment process.
