Retail Pharmacist Travel Contract in Wrangell, Alaska

Assignment Overview:

• Location: Wrangell, AK
• Duration: 13 weeks, starting ASAP
• Shifts: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM 5:30 PM (No weekends)
• Lunch Break: 1:00 PM 2:00 PM
• Pharmacy Software: Liberty RXQ

Pharmacy Details:

• Daily Scripts: 100-150
• Staffing: 1 other pharmacist, 2 full-time technicians, and 1 PRN technician available as needed.
• Community: Small town; most amenities within walking distance. Milder winter compared to other Alaskan locations.

Job Responsibilities:

• Prescription Review:

  • Evaluate prescriptions for appropriateness, legality, completeness, contraindications, interactions, allergies, and lab abnormalities.
  • Consult with prescribers as needed and document all clinical activities thoroughly.

• Order Verification:

  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of prescription orders, maintaining necessary records.

• Patient Consultation:

  • Provide clear medication information to patients, including usage, expected outcomes, and ensuring understanding.

• Medication Management:

  • Conduct chart reviews for refills and medication therapy management; communicate with providers for recommendations and refills.

• Team Leadership:

  • Supervise pharmacy technicians, serving as a role model and educator for students and support staff.

• Clinical Involvement:

  • Engage in quality control, improvement activities, and participate in meetings and committees as required.

• Health Promotion:

  • Lead initiatives related to drug use and preventive therapy.

Requirements:

• Licensure: Active pharmacist license in any state.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in outpatient or chain retail pharmacy settings.
