Reports to Technical Director About Us The Saint Louis Chess Club is a premier chess facility and organization dedicated to promoting the game of chess, hosting high-profile tournaments, and providing educational programs and resources for chess enthusiasts of all levels. Job Description Plan, organize, and execute chess tournaments, including scheduling, player registration, and venue setup. Coordinate with tournament directors, players, and chess campus departments/staff for efficient and smooth orchestration of tournaments. Manage tournament logistics, including pairing systems, time controls, and prize distributions. Oversee tournament staff assigned to events. Ensure compliance with chess regulations and fair play guidelines. Provide excellent customer service to players, spectators, and partners. Maintain accurate records and documentation for all tournaments. Submit rating reports and other documentation as required. Assist in the development and implementation of new tournament formats and initiatives. Handle challenging situations with tact and professionalism and deliver bad news or make rulings that may be unpopular. Effectively communicate with tournament staff, chess campus departments, and players before, during, and after events. Act as a representative of the Saint Louis Chess Club, promoting a positive image and fostering goodwill among participants and the broader chess community. Qualifications Member of US Chess, certified Senior Tournament Director (or higher) in good standing. FIDE National Arbiter certification or higher with an active license. Deep knowledge of International and National chess rules, regulations, and tournament procedures. Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and age groups. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency with chess tournament management software including SwissSys, Swiss Manager, and DGT. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by tournament schedules. Experience planning and executing various tournament formats such as Swiss, Round Robin, Norms, Scholastics, etc. A genuine passion for chess and a commitment to promoting sportsmanship and fair play. Additional Skills Experience in customer service training or conflict resolution. Experience in event planning, especially for chess or other sporting events. Proficiency in multiple languages, particularly official languages for FIDE (Arabic, English, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish), is a plus.
