Vice President of Supply Chain Management

Summary:
The Vice President of Supply Chain Management is responsible for the strategic oversight and leadership of the company’s end-to-end supply chain operations. This role ensures alignment of supply chain strategies with corporate goals, driving efficiencies, cost savings, and improved performance across sourcing, procurement, production, logistics, and distribution functions. The VP will work closely with internal teams, suppliers, as well as external partners to ensure optimal inventory management, vendor relations, and distribution networks that support the organization’s business objectives. Will directly supervise employees in the Materials Department, ensuring adherence to the organization's policies and procedures - including interviewing, hiring, and training staff; planning, assigning, and overseeing assignments to ensure timely completion; evaluating performance; recognizing and disciplining employees as needed; and addressing complaints while effectively resolving any issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and execute comprehensive supply chain strategies to optimize cost, quality, and delivery performance across all business units.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, productivity, and scalability.
Provide leadership and direction to supply chain functions including procurement, materials management, production planning, logistics, and inventory control.
Supplier Management & Procurement:
Oversee supplier selection, negotiation, and performance management to ensure that partnerships align with organizational goals.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to mitigate risks, drive cost reductions, and ensure quality standards are being met.
Lead the team in developing strong procurement policies and systems to ensure transparent and efficient purchasing processes.
Develop systems to evaluate vendor quotations that utilize appropriate negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery, and service.
Monitor procurement reporting systems to align with company requirements.
Prepare and review contracts, bids, proposals, and vendor agreements for legal correctness, price, and acceptability of items to specifications.
Inventory and Materials Management:
Organize, supervise, and direct the work of storeroom and central supply personnel engaged in receiving, issuing, and delivering supplies and equipment.
Ensure optimal inventory levels are maintained to meet production demands while minimizing carrying costs and obsolescence.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to forecast demand and plan materials accordingly.
Implement inventory control measures to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with company policies and regulations.
Arrange for disposal of surplus materials.
Logistics and Distribution:
Optimize the distribution network, including transportation and warehousing, to meet customer demands efficiently and cost-effectively.
Manage logistics partners to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of products while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct.
Ensure compliance with national and international shipping and transportation regulations.
Analyze market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability, including preparing market analysis reports.
Team Development:
Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing supply chain team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
Provide professional development opportunities and manage team performance through feedback, coaching and support.
Financial Management:
Develop and manage the supply chain budget, ensuring alignment with organizational financial goals and cost controls.
Monitor and report on key metrics (KPIs), including cost savings, supplier performance, inventory turns, and on-time delivery.
Risk Management:
Identify potential risks throughout the supply chain, including supply disruptions and changes in market conditions and implement mitigation strategies.
Develop contingency plans to ensure business continuity during supply chain disruptions.
Lead negotiations and/or supervise the negotiation of complex requests for equipment, supplies, and services from suppliers and subcontractors.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with the production, sales, engineering, and quality teams to align supply chain strategies with overall business objectives.
Support product development initiatives by ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement of materials and resources.
Serve as primary liaison between the supply chain function and other parties and departments to ensure effective communication and alignment.

Strong financial acumen, with experience in managing budgets, forecasting, and analyzing financial performance.
Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
Proficiency in supply chain software (ERP system – PLEX would be a plus) and advanced Excel skills.
