Job Summary The MN Indian Affairs Council is looking for their next Cultural Resources Manager! As a Cultural Resources Manager, you will ensure that all projects on or in all public or private lands or waters in Minnesota follow the rules set out in Minnesota Statute 307.08 (Private Cemeteries Act), Minnesota Statute 138.40 (Field Archaeology Act), and other laws and rules, such as Federal Public Law 101.601, the Native American Graves Protection Act, and the Repatriation Act. This position makes appropriate decisions regarding burial, archaeological, or historic sites that are related to American Indian history or religion as its expert in this highly technical field of expertise. This position maintains close working relationships with the tribal nation governments, American Indian communities, and a diverse array of public and private partners on the local, state, and federal level. This position establishes, develops, and manages these relationships through regular and effective communication, collaboration, coordination, consultation, and negotiation.

This position can be located at either the Saint Paul or Bemidji office.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Candidates must clearly demonstrate all the following qualifications in their resume:

Three years of field experience evaluating archaeological sites (both pre-contact and historic)

Experience working with one or more of the Tribal Nations of Minnesota

Knowledge and/or experience working with relevant state statutes and federal laws involving American Indian rights and governance.

A bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, American Indian studies, Archeology, or other related degree may substitute for one year of experience. An associate degree may substitute for six months of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with MIAC’s vision, programs, policies, procedures, programs, and business goals

Experience working in the American Indian Community.

Experience in leadership, planning, and project management.
