Description The Enoch Pratt Library has an immediate opening for a Director of Public Safety. The Director will plan, direct, and coordinate the security and safety activities of all Enoch Pratt Free Library buildings. The Director will manage safety protocols for security staff. Under the direction of the Chief, Facilities Management, provides first level and full supervision (including disciplinary actions) to all employees in the Security department of the Facilities Division, and assists with budget administration and policy formulation. Work may need to be performed on construction or repair work sites and will require 24-hour on-call status. Department:

On-site Full-Time, Benefits Included Summary of Duties The Summary of duties listed is not exhaustive. Prepares schedules, staff rosters, and special assignments for all security and shipping staff, including activity check-off lists. Coordinates with the Chief to assure that security support is available for all Library program events. Oversees the development, tracking, and improvement of Library security and safety plans and directs the staff in completion of the plan. Conducts an annual safety internal audit. Directs the implementation of Safety/Security Programs to maintain emergency preparedness and ensure public and staff wellbeing. Manages emergency security issues, seeking assistance of security staff as needed. Responsible for maintenance, repair, and inspection of all Library Life Safety and Security systems, equipment, and devices such as fire alarms, CCTV intrusion alarms, radios, and medical equipment. Develops and maintains relationships with external law enforcement, risk management, and emergency management agencies within the City of Baltimore, State of Maryland, and surrounding areas to improve Library capabilities. Supervises routine, special transport, and delivery services, assuring the availability of fleet vehicles. Designs and reviews implementation of all transport and security contracts, maintaining contact and communication with the vendors. Participates in the formulation of the department budget, monitoring expenditures; manages all procurement operations in City Dynamics, department receivables, and accounts payable within the division. Assists Chief in development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures especially in the area of safety and security. Coordinates safety compliance with outside agencies, such as the Office of the Fire Marshal, OSHA & ASME. Travel and participation where possible for safety conferences. Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university. Five years of management experience in the area of security management, preferably in a complex multi-site organization. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in security, risk management, library management, or project management preferred. Experience with security operations for Baltimore City or State of Maryland. Experience with budgets and policy development. EPA Certificate 608 and/or 609, OSHA, and/or Fire prevention certifications. Experience with Baltimore City safety codes and basic security/police procedures preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of security program management and standard safety and security policies. Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience utilizing state-of-the-art life safety and security systems and equipment plus the ability to train staff in their operation. Proven experience in creating and enforcing work schedules. Experience in supervising and directing a team. Demonstrated experience and commitment to functioning within agency policies and procedures. Experience in budget creation and management and basic understanding of operating within budget constraints.
