Position Summary
The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) seeks a mission-oriented, people-centered leader with the ability to work collaboratively across a complex institution as its next Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The next Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs must be a leader with significant administrative experience in higher education, including at least three years of experience in a dean’s position or higher, and a demonstrated ability to advocate for a diverse set of academic disciplines. This individual must have a passion for UIW’s mission to educate men and women who will become concerned and enlightened citizens within the global community and an understanding of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition and Catholic Social Teaching. The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution and an academic record suitable for appointment at the rank of full professor.

Align UIW's Academic Vision With Its Mission Founded by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in 1881, UIW remains true to its mission to educate men and women who will become concerned and enlightened citizens within the global community. This individual must be someone with a deep commitment to listening and engaging others to understand an institution’s history, culture, and context, as well as a strategic thinker who has the ability to connect mission to vision and implement and assess strategies.
Advance Outcomes for All Students The University’s next Provost must be passionate about UIW’s student population, support faculty and staff in the engagement of students, and have a demonstrated record of enhancing student outcomes through high-quality academic experiences and academic support services.
Build Connections and Ensure Alignment Across a Complex Institution The next Provost must be a systems thinker with the ability to foster collaborations, break down silos, and align activities and initiatives across many different academic programs with the University’s goals.
Effectively Manage Existing Resources and Identify Potential Opportunities The next Provost must be skilled at identifying mission-critical work and devoting the institution’s resources and faculty and staff time to those efforts.
Qualifications
Strong strategic planning skills and the ability to align a university’s mission, strategies, and long-term goals.
Leadership style that is consultative but decisive, builds high-performing teams, and demonstrates empathy and humility.
Commitment to listening, engaging, and understanding the needs of faculty.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Highest levels of personal and professional integrity.
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
Required Education
Earned Doctoral Degree from a regionally accredited institution and an academic record suitable for appointment at the rank of full professor.
Required Work Experience
Significant administrative experience in higher education, including at least three (3) years of experience in a dean’s position or higher.
