Department Specifics: Maintenance & Operations - Custodial Services OCC’s Maintenance and Operations Department has developed a management process for Custodial Services operations, allowing for quantification of cleaning costs based on stakeholder expectations. The department operates under HHPC as a full operating Team Cleaning Operation, managing 1.1 million square feet of cleanable space.
Summary Plans, prioritizes, assigns, reviews, and participates with a team of Custodial Services team members in providing custodial services for a large campus. Performs work requiring the highest skill level such as major cleaning, facility repairs, furniture assembly, and assisting campus maintenance teams.
Distinguishing Career Features The Custodial Services Team Leader is a senior leadership position requiring experience and skill in directing custodial services staff and providing project leadership. Advancement requires demonstrated competency in project leadership and planning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates, prioritizes, and assigns custodial services and reviews work progress. Provides and coordinates training of custodial staff to improve skills and performance. Establishes schedules and methods for custodial services in compliance with health and safety regulations. Serves as a resource on custodial services and projects on a large campus. Monitors preventive maintenance of assigned equipment and requisitions supplies. Maintains adequate inventories of supplies and equipment. Prepares and maintains records and reports pertaining to work orders and supplies. Performs all duties of the Custodian and Custodian Senior classifications. Performs other related duties as assigned. Abides by all District policies and procedures. Knowledge and Skills
In-depth knowledge of custodial cleaning methods, materials, tools, and equipment. Basic knowledge of building maintenance trades. Thorough knowledge of custodial care and sanitation. Knowledge of work hazards and safe work techniques. Basic knowledge of building repairs. Sufficient reading and writing ability for documentation. Human relations skills to exercise courtesy when dealing with others. Abilities
Ability to perform essential responsibilities and functions of the position. Ability to plan and sequence cleaning tasks. Ability to operate custodial equipment. Ability to mix cleaning chemicals properly. Ability to perform routine maintenance tasks. Ability to observe safety and security concerns. Ability to give direction to other custodians. Ability to follow oral and written directions. Ability to respond to urgent situations. Physical Abilities
General physical demands and working conditions associated with this classification will be kept on file with the Office of Human Resources. Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and four years of custodial experience, including facilities maintenance. Any combination of education and experience providing equivalent qualifications. AND
Demonstrated evidence of responsiveness to diversity within the community college student population. Licenses and Certificates
