ACCOUNTING MANAGER - Growth Oriented Financial Institution in Atlanta - Fully Remote
My client, a well-respected financial institution in the Atlanta metro area, is looking to add an experienced Accounting Manager to their team to oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month-end close processes. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and timely preparation of financial reports for management and external audits. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a small team while upholding effective internal controls and driving efficiency improvements. Success in this role requires a balance of professionalism, confidentiality, and collaboration.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily financial transactions, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with deadlines.
- Coordinate and support external audits, providing necessary documentation and information.
- Manage debt-related activities, including tracking interest expenses, principal payments, and accruals.
- Review and reconcile the loan portfolio to ensure accuracy of principal balances, interest, and fees, ensuring alignment with financial records.
- Perform monthly reconciliations for employee benefits and other key accounts.
- Review prepaids, fixed assets, grant receivables, and accounts payable reconciliations to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
- Review and reconcile third-party loan servicing accounts to ensure correct balances.
- Initiate and review internal and external fund transfers as necessary.
- Post monthly statistical journal entries and ensure proper alignment with financial reports.
- Assist with financial forecasting and analysis, leveraging current and projected data to guide decision-making.
- Provide ongoing training, mentoring, and support to accounting staff to enhance team performance.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the financial health of the organization.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is required.
- Previous financial institution and grant accounting experience required.
- Proficiency with Sage Intacct ERP software is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience as an Accounting Manager is essential.
- Extensive knowledge of bookkeeping, accounting principles, and applicable laws and regulations, especially in non-profit environments.
- Strong understanding of not-for-profit accounting practices and internal control systems is highly desirable.
- Experience with grant management and compliance within a non-profit organization is preferred.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
- Exceptional organizational skills and a meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including creating financial models, managing complex spreadsheets, and utilizing advanced formulas.
- Professional certification, such as CPA or CMA, is a plus.
