The
College of Humanities and Social Sciences
is one of the three largest colleges at NC State University in terms of student headcount. The mission of the College is to serve the residents of North Carolina and meet the challenges of the 21st century by educating our students to be future leaders and responsible citizens. The Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, reporting to the Dean of the College, serves as a key member of the Dean’s leadership team, creating academic pathways for success for both undergraduate and graduate students while maintaining best practices in curricular policies and procedures across the college. General Scope of Duties: Academic Programs and Student Success: Bringing leadership and vision to support departments in sustaining and developing academic programs. Directing the development of undergraduate and graduate academic policies and procedures. Overseeing the team who directs undergraduate operations in the college. Managing graduate operations in the college. Providing data-driven support for academic decision making at the department or college level. Accreditation, Assessment, and Program Reviews: Supervising undergraduate and graduate program assessment. Directing college-level accreditation processes and compliance. Recruitment, Retention, and Student Engagement: Providing vision and leadership for recruitment, retention, and student engagement initiatives. College and University Collaborations: Representing the college in graduate and undergraduate academic affairs initiatives and events across the university. Team Management and Leadership: Leading the academic and student affairs team. Other Responsibilities:
The Associate Dean participates in the college leadership team, representing the college at university and public functions, and may serve as the acting dean. Qualifications: Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires doctoral degree in Humanities or Social Sciences field, or an equivalent degree, and a record that qualifies for the rank of Professor. Other Required Qualifications: Ability to provide a visionary, values-driven approach to administration and college leadership. Evidence of collaborative leadership in educational settings. Significant experience in leading and managing progressive change. Preferred Qualifications: 5 years in academic administration.
