WHAT YOU WILL BE DOINGAs part of the Finance Section within the Division of Administrative Services for the Department of Public Safety (DPS), this position performs many specialized accounting functions such as serving as the main point of contact for all Reimbursable Service Agreements (RSAs) and processing associated transactions, monthly State Equipment Fleet (SEF) billings, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and processing of adjusting journal entries, processing deposits for the Juneau Finance office and clearing receipts in IRIS, as well as assisting with processing and certifying accounts payable transactions, and serving as back-up to the Accounting Technician II in the Anchorage Finance office
OUR ORGANIZATION, MISSION, AND CULTURE:The Division of Administrative Services provides management assistance to the commissioner and administrative support to all divisions. Centralized administrative support includes: operating/capital budgeting, financial management, procurement, property control, leasing, grants and contracts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, interagency agreements, budget coordination, and warehouse operation. THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:This position is being recruited for in Anchorage and Juneau. The Juneau office features a top floor beautiful view of downtown Juneau and across the channel to Douglas (150 3rd Street). The Anchorage office features a large campus close to the UMED area (5700 East Tudor). The environment is supportive, professional, and friendly. This position would be eligible to telework.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
•Working knowledge of accounting principles and accounting best practices in order to provide accurate, timely and efficient financial data to all end-users;
•Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with complex accounting and reporting systems such as IRIS and ALDER or similar programs in the private sector;
•Advanced knowledge of Microsoft suite such as Excel, Word, and Outlook;
•Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain laws, rules and regulations to personnel with little to no accounting experience;
•Strong organizational and prioritization skills and ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision;

Minimum Qualifications

One year of entry technical level accounting or clerical bookkeeping experience.

Substitutions:
Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.
