Position Title:
Director of Mission and Justice Engagement
Reports To:
Clergy
Position Type:
Part-Time (15 hours/week)
Position Overview:
The Director of Mission and Justice Engagement will develop and implement programs that encourage the congregation to actively engage in mission and justice work, in alignment with our church’s mission to help people Know God, Love God, and Serve God. This role will foster opportunities for service and advocacy within the community and beyond, ensuring our church lives out its commitment to inclusion, compassion, and justice.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development & Leadership:
Create and coordinate opportunities for congregation members to engage in mission work, both locally and globally.
Develop justice initiatives that align with the United Methodist Church’s Social Principles, including topics like poverty, racial justice, environmental care, and immigration.
Support mission trip leaders, service days, and outreach activities that align with our church’s values.
Collaborate with church leadership to incorporate mission and justice themes into worship and other church activities.
Attend Church & Society and Mission Meetings.
Community Engagement:
Build partnerships with local non-profits, advocacy groups, and community organizations to expand the church’s outreach.
Facilitate educational opportunities, such as workshops and guest speakers, on issues related to justice, mercy, and mission work.
Serve as the church’s liaison with denominational and ecumenical mission organizations.
Volunteer Coordination:
Recruit, train, and support volunteers to participate in mission and justice efforts.
Ensure that volunteers are engaged and equipped to serve effectively, providing training and resources as necessary.
Advocacy and Awareness:
Educate the congregation on current social justice issues and provide actionable steps for involvement and advocacy.
Communicate with volunteers about upcoming events and opportunities to engage.
Administration and Reporting:
Manage the mission and church and society budgets, in collaboration with the chairs of the church and society committee and justice committee.
Provide regular reports to Clergy and church leadership on mission activities and outcomes.
Ensure all activities are in alignment with the church’s mission and strategic goals.
Qualifications:
Strong personal commitment to the church’s mission to Know God, Love God, and Serve God.
Passion for justice, mission, and service, with a solid understanding of United Methodist Social Principles.
Experience in mission work, volunteer coordination, and/or community outreach.
Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
Flexibility to work weekends and attend occasional off-site events.
Compensation:
$15,600 Annually
