The Fr. Alfred Center (FAC) provides a residential recovery program to homeless men who are ready to create sober and stable lives for themselves. The Sous Chef assists with the preparation, planning, and serving of 3 meals a day for a residential facility of 80 men plus staff. The Sous Chef works as a member of a kitchen team to ensure high quality, tasty food is served in a respectful environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Staff Performance and Development
Assists with the training and supervision of 4 kitchen assistants/dishwashers. Provide timely and regular feedback on staff performance. Ensure staff demonstrate good customer service skills towards guests and community members. Facilitate team huddles for staff as needed. Program Administration and Operations
Complete reports and paperwork neatly and thoroughly. Enter data electronically as required. Understand and follow the organization's programs, policies, and procedures. Participate in training and development opportunities. Prepare nutritious, well-presented meals for residents and staff. Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen work area. Ensure compliance with sanitary food handling procedures. Assist with menu development and ordering. Monitor use of supplies in the kitchen. Facilitate a safe environment in the kitchen. Teamwork
Participate in relevant meetings. Collaborate with others to achieve team success. Manage stress and pressure situations calmly. Demonstrate integrity while representing St. Anthony’s. Practice respectful communication with colleagues. Cooperate with coworkers and management. Minimum Qualifications
Culinary Degree or equivalent experience. Minimum three years’ experience as a chef. Ability to supervise and train kitchen staff. Experience or knowledge of issues affecting chemically-dependent adults preferred. Excellent supervisory and training skills. Knowledge of safe, sanitary food handling procedures. Ability to perform physical labor required by volume cooking. Excellent communication skills. Ability to set limits and practice professional boundaries. Ability to respond to emergencies calmly. Ability to work non-traditional hours. Ability to complete paperwork neatly. Willingness to learn to use technology for communication. Ability to remain awake and aware during shifts. Punctuality and reliability. P.R./First Aid certification preferred. Experience in a non-profit or community-based agency desired. Proficiency in a second language desired.
