This key leadership role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of Fairfax County’s transportation infrastructure. FCDOT is a complex and dynamic agency responsible for guiding critical transportation initiatives with an FY25 combined budget of $1.13 billion and a team of nearly 190 employees across eight divisions.The successful candidate will oversee the county’s multimodal transportation network, manage its bus system, and collaborate with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and other regional partners to ensure the implementation of comprehensive mobility strategies. A key focus will be placed on fostering innovation, enhancing public engagement, and integrating transportation projects with broader county initiatives such as the Countywide Strategic Plan and the Environmental and Climate Action Plan (CECAP).Minimum Qualifications:The successful candidate will possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, transportation, financial management, or a closely related field, with at least six years of progressively responsible relevant experience, including four years in a key administrative role. A graduate degree is preferred.The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and visionary leader and have a strong background in multimodal transportation planning, design, and project execution, including managing large-scale transportation initiatives. Experienced in public policy, the new Director should demonstrate the ability to lead a large, complex organization, work effectively with elected officials, state, regional, and federal partners, and champion progressive transportation solutions that align with Fairfax County’s sustainability and equity goals.Salary and Benefits:The salary range for this position is $166,966- $292,190, depending on qualifications, with an excellent benefits package.Interested candidates should apply online at
