Position Overview

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is undertaking a critical project to relocate and upgrade its Traffic Management System (TMS) and traffic light network. This project involves transitioning the TMS infrastructure from its current location at the Reeves Center to a new facility at 60 Florida Ave., which will be dual-homed in a city-wide data center managed by the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) for enhanced redundancy and resilience. The overarching goal is to ensure that DDOT’s 1600+ signals and devices dispersed throughout the city remain operational and capable of adapting to future technological advancements. This large-scale relocation aims to increase network security, enhance system uptime, and provide scalability for future growth.

The Protrack+ Quality Assurance Tester will play a crucial role in ensuring the stability and functionality of the Protrack+ software, which supports smooth traffic management operations. This role involves planning and executing QA testing processes to identify and document issues, validate system functionality, and collaborate with development teams. The QA Tester will help ensure that Protrack+ meets DDOT’s operational standards and performs reliably in a dynamic urban environment.

The Protrack+ Quality Assurance Tester is responsible for conducting comprehensive quality assurance testing on the Protrack+ software to ensure it functions optimally for DDOT’s traffic management needs. This role includes test planning, case development, execution, and issue reporting. The ideal candidate will work closely with the development team to troubleshoot and validate software performance, ensuring that all functionalities align with requirements and meet high standards of quality.

Essential Job Function
  • Perform test planning, test case development, and execution for the Protrack+ software to ensure compliance with DDOT’s operational requirements.
  • Document, report, and prioritize issues discovered during testing, collaborating closely with the development team for resolution.
  • Validate system functionality by performing functional, regression, and system testing, ensuring that all features align with requirements.
  • Create and maintain test documentation, including test plans, test cases, and test results for future reference and audits.
  • Assist in the design and execution of automated test scripts to improve testing efficiency and enhance quality coverage.
  • Monitor and assess software quality metrics to support continuous improvement in testing processes and software reliability.
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders regarding testing status, test coverage, and any critical issues identified during QA cycles.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices in software QA and propose process improvements to enhance the quality and efficiency of QA activities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3-4 years of experience in software testing or quality assurance, with a focus on functional and system testing.
  • Experience with test case development, test planning, and bug reporting in a professional QA role.
  • Familiarity with QA tools and practices in a software development environment, ideally within infrastructure or traffic management applications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
Desired Qualifications
  • ISTQB Certified Tester or equivalent certification is preferred, indicating a recognized level of QA proficiency.
  • Experience with automation testing tools such as Selenium, JMeter, or equivalent for test execution.
  • Knowledge of traffic management software systems or experience in testing applications within the transportation sector.
  • Understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies to work effectively in fast-paced, iterative development environments.
  • Proficiency in using QA tracking and documentation tools such as JIRA, TestRail, or similar platforms for test management.
  • Basic understanding of SQL or data querying to validate backend data and perform database testing.
