We are looking for a detail-oriented and skilled

Certified

Medical Assistant

to join our Primary Care Lab team. In this role, you will support our primary care physicians by performing clinical tasks in the lab, including specimen collection and diagnostic testing. You will play an essential role in providing top-quality care to our patients, ensuring accurate and timely test results while delivering excellent patient service. Key Responsibilities: Collect blood, urine, and other specimens from patients for diagnostic testing. Perform point-of-care testing, such as blood glucose and urinalysis. Prepare and label specimens for transport to external labs, following proper procedures and protocols. Assist healthcare providers with diagnostic procedures and follow-up care. Record and document vital signs, patient symptoms, and test results in the electronic medical record (EMR) system. Maintain a clean and organized lab environment, ensuring equipment is sanitized and functioning properly. Follow safety protocols for handling specimens and biohazard materials. Educate patients on the testing process and provide pre- and post-procedure care instructions. Manage lab supply inventory and order necessary materials. Assist with patient intake, scheduling, and other front-office duties when needed. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and standards. Perform other CMA functions per scope of practice as needed.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent. Current Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA). Strong skills with phlebotomy and performing lab functions/point of care testing. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Mandatory Reporter training. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals. Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and other healthcare technology. Why UnityPoint Health?
