Together, we push the boundaries of science to make more possible for our customers.Your Role:EMD Electronics is a recognized materials supplier, with multiple products currently being used in cutting-edge Augmented and Virtual Reality Devices. In your role as AR Principal Optical Design Engineer, you will help us deepen our understanding of this technology, allowing us to delineate how our products can push the performance of current devices. You will play a central role in helping us to define scale-up paths for products using our materials and processes. This role can be hybrid with the expectation of spending at least 1 week/quarter at our Silicon Valley critical initiative in San Jose to develop new materials to impact next-generation AR/VR products.Tasks:As an optical design engineer, you will be in charge of designing Polarization Volume Hologram (PVH) waveguides. You will help us understanding how changes in materials, process and architecture affect the overall performance of the waveguides.You will also help analyzing grating and combiner level metrology to help tuning the performance of our waveguides.Who You Are:Minimum Qualifications:PhD. in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.Extensive industry experience working on the design of AR/VR technology-related products (4 or more years). Preferred Qualifications:Experience modeling the optical response of augmented reality devices by using RCWA, FDTD, ray-tracing, and related formalisms. Experience with some of the commercial packages (VirtualLab, Zemax, LightTools, Code V, Lumerical, etc.) and self-written code in relevant languages (Python, Matlab, etc.). A clear understanding of AR/VR technology and how materials and architectures influence KPIs and user experience.A clear understanding of the optical characterization methods used in AR/VR components metrology.Willingness to push the boundaries of current approaches and to innovate in the field of AR device modeling.Excellent communication skills.What we offer: We are curious minds that come from a broad range of backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences.
