Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting including overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department in their production of accurate periodic, quarterly, and annual financial statements. With a solid understanding of GAAP Accounting, this integral manager maintains and implements necessary controls in operations, policies, and processes for optimal efficiency and risk avoidance for the company.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the accounting and review of period financials for multiple locations.
  • Prepares financial statements to summarize and forecast the company's financial status.
  • Produces and manages balance sheets and analyze future earnings and expenses.
  • Hires, trains, develops and appraises staff effectively. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis in accordance with company policy. Consults with Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outside advisors, and filing financial reports. Advises management of actions and potential risks.
  • Ensures compliance with and prepare reports according to applicable government regulations.
  • Prepares work papers and oversees compliance of government tax/municipal filings and reporting.
  • Prepares work papers and produces the journal entry(ies) for periodic payrolls.
  • Coordinates with and prepares reports for CFO and upper management.

Accountabilities:
  • Keeps up-to-date on information and technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
  • Manages budget and controls expenses effectively.
  • Assists with management of accounting, auditing, and budgeting within the organization.
  • Uses accounting software to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Works to reconcile accounting inaccuracies or imbalances.

Consulted:
  • Protects assets by recommending, monitoring and enforcing internal controls.
  • Guides financial decisions by recommending, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Assists with preparations for audits.

  • Delegates accounting tasks to junior accounting staff.

  • Solid understanding of GAAP and applicable regulations.

Education, Experience and Licensing Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • 10 years of accounting experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP Accounting Software
