Colorectal Surgery

The Richmond VAMC VA Richmond Health Care | Veterans Affairs is recruiting for an open rank position in colon and rectal surgery. You will work closely with GI on inflammatory bowel disease; partner with the other surgeons in colon-rectal/anal malignancies; help expand services that may not be offered in our organization; and participate in a IBD multi-disciplinary practice. You will also support the division with teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels. At Richmond VAMC, we provide the most comprehensive and advanced care for a wide range of colorectal and anorectal conditions. Our surgeons are double-board-certified in general surgery and colon and rectal surgery, and they have extensive experience in performing robotic and laparoscopic surgery. We also offer a full range of services, including colonoscopy and investigation of pre-malignant conditions.
We understand that colorectal and anorectal diseases can be complex and often require a multidisciplinary approach. That's why we work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as gastroenterologists, medical and radiation oncologists, wound ostomy care specialists, physical therapists, and nutritionists, to provide our patients with the most comprehensive care possible. We also offer an enhanced recovery program to help our patients recover from surgery more quickly and comfortably. This program includes a variety of measures, such as early mobilization, pain management, and nutritional support.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching
Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in all areas of colon & rectal surgery as well as applied anatomy and physiology. Medicine residents and fellows from Virginia Commonwealth University complete their rotation with our surgery faculty.
Research
Opportunities are available.
Clinical
Duties will include clinical responsibilities in all areas of colon and rectal surgery. Colon and rectal clinics, anorectal diseases, Inflammatory Bowel diseases, and endoscopy.
Service
The opportunity to serve on departmental and committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g., reviewer, conference organizer, etc.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be board certified/board eligible in general surgery.
- Completion of a fellowship in colorectal surgery
- Commitment to laboratory and/or clinical research is not required.
- Experience teaching residents and medical students
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at Richmond VAMC is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in robotic surgery and/or laparoscopic surgery
- Minimum 5 years in practice.
