The role is responsible for performing the software engineering function at an expert level, including the design, development, testing, troubleshooting, and debugging of software programs for enhancements and new software-intensive systems and products.

Job Description
Leidos is seeking a principal software engineer to support the NASA Langley Research Center's Center Operations Directorate (COD). The role is responsible for performing the software engineering function at an expert level, including the design, development, testing, troubleshooting, and debugging of software programs for enhancements and new software-intensive systems and products.

Primary Responsibilities
- Adhere to all Langley COD policies and procedures for software development.
- Support the technical planning, analysis, assessment, design, development, systems integration and installation, configuration, testing, evaluation, troubleshooting and repair, sustainment, special/trade-study, technical recommendations, and regulatory compliance of the Langley COD architecture to include (but not limited to): Network management, network fault diagnostics, specialized software development, mission critical customer support systems, and network Cybersecurity monitoring.
- Provide sustaining and maintenance support to maintain all elements of network architecture devices at latest operating system and vendor supported hardware platforms.
- Perform system administration functions for Mission systems and ensure that all Cybersecurity requirements are implemented in full compliance with NASA directives.
- Support network management and network modeling efforts. Develop and maintain lab and test environments to support troubleshooting and new technology evaluation.
- Provide emerging insertion technologies (i.e. new features, capabilities, etc.).
- Perform application configurations to support network requirements and modifications to correct software issues.
- Provide maintenance and support of tools (e.g., debuggers, traffic generators, and traffic capture software) that provide system test and network capabilities, diagnostic and fault isolations capabilities, firewall rules add/deletes, and network traffic data collections capabilities.
- Provide integration and testing support for the distribution of operating systems upgrades, Cybersecurity patches/fixes, kernel upgrades, custom kernel upgrades, and custom serial drivers.
- Develop and perform test and certification for both hardware and software.
- Develop and validate system architecture.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or related field with 10-12 years of experience working in software engineering operations; or equivalent experience
- Ability to obtain a NASA Public Trust clearance
- Creativity to imagine innovative, effective new solutions and designs.
- Apply sound logic and reasoning against troubleshooting difficult issues.
- Must be able to develop solutions to problems, as well as manage multiple issues at the same time.
- Understanding and appropriately responding to feedback is an important aspect of this position.
- Both oral and written communication skills are vital to relaying important information, training new staff members, and communicating about solutions to complex problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- 15+ years of software engineering experience across multiple disciplines (coding, testing, deploying, troubleshooting) with basic understanding of hybrid cloud service operations
- General understanding of ITSM processes and experience with agile methodologies like Scrum, Kanban, SAFe using technologies like Jira or ServiceNow
- General understanding of DevSecOps concepts and Site Reliability Engineering

- Azure DevOps Engineer certification
