The CSU Spur campus houses three buildings focused on water, food and agriculture, human and animal health, and sustainability. Within the Spur buildings, CSU conducts research and convenes experts from around the globe; students of all ages engage with science and have opportunities for exploratory learning, transforming their thinking about food, water, and health, and the careers available in these fields; and partners join in programming the space and bring evolving content to the year-round campus. Position Summary CSU Spur is seeking the newest member of the dynamic Spur campus team – Events Assistant. This position is a part-time position that delivers event assistance for an active year-round operation of events and conferences at the CSU Spur Campus. A full line of services and CSU facilities are offered to both internal constituencies and external clients. This position is expected to help manage events logistics and operations for events at CSU Spur for clients from CSU and the community beyond. As a member of the Events Team, this position will assist with event setup and logistics at the CSU Spur Campus including event requests, use agreements, room configuration, logistics, and vendor relations. The Events Assistant will provide on-site and on-call assistance throughout events. To be successful, the individual must possess outstanding interpersonal skills and be detail-oriented, with an understanding of providing exceptional customer service and problem-solving skills in a professional manner. The individual must have a strong background in communication and attention to detail. This position should expect to work outside the standard University business hours, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends. This is an Administrative Professional that reports directly to the Manager of Events and is a non-exempt position. Required Job Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Must demonstrate a positive attitude both on and off the job Strong oral and written communication skills A demonstrated interest in customer service hospitality, event planning, and customer service Ability to work independently with medium supervision Highly flexible and willing to handle a wide variety of tasks in detail-oriented fashion A high level of maturity and professional conduct in both actions and appearance while working with university staff, visitors, guests, peer employees, and vendors Understanding of peer supervision and accountability Ability to lift at least 35 lbs. and stand for long periods of time Preferred Job Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Communications, Public Relations or related field 1 year experience in the event or hospitality industry Fluent in Spanish Diversity Statement Reflecting departmental and institutional values, candidates are expected to have the ability to advance the Department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. Essential Duties Job Duty CategoryEvent Coordination Duty/Responsibility Ensure all event spaces are setup and arranged according to the event specifications, this includes but is not limited to setting the tables, chairs, and basic audio-visual equipment. Return all equipment to its proper locations for storage and cleaning Ensure that conference rooms are clean, neat and presentable Contact responsible department if assistance is needed Ensure that all AV equipment is in proper working order; Contact IT department for any needs Teach basic use of in-room A/V equipment Be the onsite contact for smaller events or assistant the manager of events with larger events Assist with vendor delivery/pickup Work scheduled front desk shifts during event hours if needed and find a replacement team member for any shifts they are unable to work.
