Laboratory Research Technician II- Dr. Stauffer's Laboratory Job Summary Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment. Essential Functions The Stauffer Lab (http://staufferlab.org) is seeking a motivated researcher to perform computational genomics, single cell neurobiology, and biomedical image quantification. The successful candidate will work in the Department of Neurobiology and collaborate closely with Dr. Andreas Pfenning in CMU's Computational Biology program (http://www.pfenninglab.org) and Dr. Leah Byrne in the University of Pittsburgh Ophthalmology department (https://byrnelab.science). Together, our labs maintain a research program that aims to establish cell type- and circuit-specific tools and techniques for use in systems neuroscience research and translational gene therapy applications. Our goals require us to define the molecular phenotypes of neurons in the nonhuman primate brain, identify cell type specific enhancers, and perform in-vivo validation via post-mortem tissue processing. We seek an experienced and enthusiastic individual to use cutting-edge Machine Learning (ML) models to analyze single cell data to identify cell types and cell type specific enhancers. The successful candidate will have significant laboratory experience working with adeno associated viral vectors and training in neuroscience, molecular biology, bioengineering, or a related field. Additional criteria include familiarity with data analysis and computational techniques, great organizational skills, and a desire to help us to understand how the brain works. Salary commensurate with education and experience. We will positively consider extremely ambitious, recent post-graduates looking to build a resume for future studies in medicine or biomedical science.
