DEFINITION:

It is the responsibility of the plans examiner to conduct review of construction plans submitted in the permit application to assure compliance with the Florida Building Code and any applicable local technical amendment to the Florida Building Code. The review of construction plans must be done by a person licensed in the appropriate plans examiner category as defined in s. 468.603. The plans examiner's responsibilities must be performed under the supervision and authority of the building official. Under general supervision, the position performs advanced technical work while assisting the Building Official and Assistant Building Official in examining building plans for the Building Services Division. Principal function involves plan review for commercial and residential structures. The position plays a positive and supportive role as a member of an interdisciplinary team providing permitting and inspection services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Not all-inclusive):

Reviews all commercial and residential development plans from the point of submission to assure compliance with the Florida Building Code. Ensures adequate coordination of plan review and building inspections with other applicable codes and laws. Performs code analysis and consultations with architects, engineers, project managers, contractors, Building Official, city employees, and the general public. Performs inspections of complicated structures and unsafe buildings and recommends corrective action as required. Issues Stop Work orders as necessary in accordance with agency procedures as required. Keeps abreast of new legislation concerning building and construction codes. Attends Conferences and meetings of State and local construction-related organizations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must obtain the Building Plans Examiner - Provisional License within 120 days of hire and obtain a standard certificate within a year.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Requires a driver's license valid in the State of Florida.
