This is a hands-on role where you'll oversee critical operational functions and have the chance to shape the systems and processes that will support our employees and promote our mission.

Success in the Role
Onboarding Period
Your first few weeks will be focused on learning Kommissary's operations, team structure, and payroll and benefits systems. You'll audit our current processes, identify inefficiencies, and propose improvements. You'll also collaborate with our Director of People Operations and our recruiting and onboarding team to develop goals for payroll, compliance, and employee engagement.

3rd Month Goals
By the end of your third month, you will have established an efficient routine for managing payroll, benefits, and compliance, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. You will take ownership of many operational HR functions, including payroll processing, compliance tracking, and benefits administration, allowing the Director of People Operations to focus on strategic initiatives. In addition, you will have developed a reporting structure to track key metrics like payroll accuracy, benefits usage, and employee satisfaction, providing leadership with actionable insights. Your proactive management will ensure that regulatory deadlines and audits are met without issue, building a reliable foundation for HR operations.

1st Year Goals
By the end of your first year, you will have introduced new benefits programs based on employee feedback, enhancing retention and engagement. You will have led a pay equity analysis to ensure competitive and fair compensation across roles, strengthening employee trust. Additionally, you will have successfully managed annual open enrollment, ensuring clear communication and high participation without disruptions. Over the course of the year, you will have developed a compliance calendar to keep the organization ahead of audits, filings, and legal changes. Working closely with the recruitment and retention manager, you'll contribute to broader HR initiatives by supporting onboarding improvements and retention strategies. Your continuous efforts will leave Kommissary with streamlined HR operations and a motivated workforce.

Physical Demands: Generally, presents standard office environment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position >95% of the time. Continually operates a professional video camera, professional camera, computer, keyboard and mouse, and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, printer, and mobile Smartphone device. Constantly positions self to comfortably maintain computer/office equipment. Will be required to move about in an office setting, kitchen setting (in hot and cold weather conditions) or position office equipment weighing between 10-25 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Finger dexterity required in this position to capture still and moving images and to create content. The person in this position frequently communicates with other people. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Requirements

Must-Have Skills
  • Strong understanding of payroll and benefits administration, including experience managing tax filings, health plans, and retirement accounts.
  • A passion for process improvement, with the ability to spot inefficiencies and propose solutions.
  • Broad experience across all HR functions, including recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and compliance.
  • Exceptional data management and reporting skills, with experience using HRIS systems (we use Paylocity).
  • Familiarity with state and federal labor regulations (e.g., FMLA, ACA, OSHA)

5+ years of experience in HR, with demonstrated expertise in benefits, payroll, and compliance.

Salary Description

$90,000 - $105,000
