Who You'll Work With

You will be based in our Houston office as part of the Energy Solutions team, which is part of McKinsey's Global Energy & Materials practice.

Energy Solutions, a specialist market intelligence unit, provides analysis, insights and support across the entire energy value chain, including oil & natural gas, refining, and power & renewables. Our dedicated specialists use proprietary tools and methodologies and a data-driven approach.

You will work closely with our Global Energy & Materials experts and local practitioners to service clients and will leverage McKinsey's wider expertise network, research, and analysis to provide unique knowledge.

Your impact within our firm

As a Knowledge Analyst you will join McKinsey's North American and Global Gas team and will be instrumental in shaping our proprietary market intelligence within global gas and LNG sectors. You will delve into topics such as gas/LNG supply and demand forecasting, cost analysis, gas balance system modeling, market dynamics, trading and portfolio optimization, among others.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with experts from our Energy and Sustainability practices, integrating macroeconomic, technological, and policy trends with McKinsey's insights on the global gas and LNG sectors. Leveraging these insights, you will refine and expand our models for gas and LNG supply and demand forecasting, applying them to client projects for asset-backed consulting.

Daily problem-solving will be a central aspect of your job. You will work alongside your manager, the leadership of Energy Solutions, and colleagues from the Gas and LNG team globally as well as other functions across the firm. As you gain experience, you will contribute to the strategic direction of these topics and help develop more detailed projections. You will deepen your expertise in global and US energy markets and become a go-to expert in your content area, supporting colleagues and clients, including on longer-term client-serving projects.

Your qualifications and skills

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, management, economics, science, political sciences or other discipline with a quantitative focus; advanced degree related to energy a plus
  • 1+ years of work experience in oil & gas upstream, power, and/or natural gas a plus
  • Strong proficiency in modeling capability tools such as Python or R; familiarity with Tableau and Excel preferred
  • Ambition to work in a fast-paced, result-oriented team with steep learning curve and strong commitment to coaching and development
  • Proven record of leadership in a work setting and/or through extracurricular activities
  • Demonstratable interest and passion for the energy sector
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and effectively with people at all levels in an organization
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English
