Position Purpose:
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for developing and maintaining positive employee relations strategies, providing expert advice on employee relations matters, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and organizational policies. The role involves resolving workplace issues, fostering a productive work environment, and guiding leadership on managing employee performance and workplace conflicts.

Essential Functions:

Consultation and Advisory:
  • Advise managers and employees on employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
  • Provide guidance on employee relations policies, procedures, and legal compliance.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on employment law, company policies, and HR best practices.
Conflict Resolution and Mediation:
  • Mediate and resolve employee disputes in a fair, consistent, and timely manner.
  • Facilitate discussions between employees and supervisors to promote understanding and solutions.
  • Conduct investigations into employee grievances, complaints, and misconduct allegations, ensuring thorough documentation and adherence to legal and policy requirements.
  • Performance Management:
  • Partner with leadership on addressing performance issues, ensuring documentation and corrective action are handled appropriately.
  • Coach managers on best practices for managing performance and fostering positive employee relations.
  • Support employees in understanding expectations, providing feedback, and navigating performance improvement plans.
  • Compliance and Policy Management:
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA, Title VII, etc.).
  • Collaborate on updating and implementing HR policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with legal requirements and organizational objectives.
  • Support school teams in managing risk related to employment practices and workplace behaviors.
Employee Engagement and Retention:
  • Advise leaders on promoting a culture of transparency, fairness, and respect by developing employee engagement initiatives.
  • Act as a trusted resource for employees seeking assistance with workplace issues.
  • Partner with leadership and HR teams to create programs that enhance employee morale and retention.
Investigations and Documentation:
  • Lead investigations of employee complaints, including harassment, discrimination, and policy violations, ensuring appropriate actions and follow-up.
  • Maintain confidential records of employee relations cases and ensure proper documentation for legal and internal auditing purposes.
Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) preferred.
Experience:
  • 6-8+ years of experience in employee relations, HR generalist, or related role.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, employee relations, and conflict resolution practices.
Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience with HR software and case management systems is a plus.
